Intercooler plumbing

I am adding intercooers to my Skater this year and rebuilding my 540s. My question is what is the bet way to run the water thru the cooler. I have hardin seastrainer that run to a water pump with impeller. Do I splice into that system or ? What the best way of feeding the coolers the waste is easy I think

another pickup & strainer strickly for the coolers so they don't get water while idleing

Why? You don't want to run water thru them continually? I have seen some boats with water running out the side at the dock.

That would be out the motor, the IC with water at idle will lead to puddling and rich conditions .The best way is to have a pick up on the back of the boat that is forced feed just for the IC and it's own sea strainer. You do not want to rob any water that the motor needs for cooling. And you really do not need to run water in the IC at idle or low speeds. This is what I have learned and found to be the best set up for a IC.

A little trick I picked up along the way is to plumb a #6 AN line from the rear of the intake manifold where it blocks off the water passages in the heads to the rear of your IC. At idle, a small amount of warmed water flows thru your IC core from rear to front and out the force feed pick up. Keeps the fuel suspended in the air better. No puddling issue. As soon as you start moving, the 12 AN feed from the pick up over rides the small amount of pressure from the 6AN feed, water flow reverses and the core gets cold water again.

Interesting. Anybody else out there have some tips or best practices?

How do you flush the intercooers after use. Need to do that where I go
