Congrat's JIM!!!

Don't expect to see any other outboard even close to that speed.

Double Rigged 08-25-2012 04:39 PM

Any one know if the 32 Doug Wright ran? Kap was supposed to run.

skate 08-25-2012 04:58 PM

Double Rigged 08-25-2012 05:31 PM

Yea that is flying in a 28!

Congratulations Jim!!!! Jim has spent countless hrs in set up and testing, work has paid off. I believe Diamond Marine may have massaged his motors, not sure, his Skater has Always been on the fast side, I believe his unofficial top speed is 126+

I work with Jim and know him and his boat well. Jim's powerheads are stock. The only modifications to the motors are Wayne Taylor mids. As Steve said, he has spent countless hours testing and tweaking the boat to achieve his top speed, which is 127.3 mph on radar (at one of the past hot toddy runs I beleive). It's all the little cumulative tweaks he has made to the boat and the set up over the years which have added up to that top speed. I wanted to set the record straight because I have personally heard people say that he must have modified the powerheads to achieve that speed.

Does anyone know where there is a complete list of speed runs you can look at. I would like to see what other boats ran in that class. Anyone see the Doug Wright run? 113 for a 32 is impressive.

I like the new avatar! Congrats on the new boat. I can't wait to see it and run with you next year.

waterboy222 08-31-2012 01:06 PM

It was a pleasure meeting the other outboard Skater guys at Coconuts this weekend. When I pulled the 24 in, they all came over and introduced themselves. Had a great time talkin shop and sharin stories. What a great group of guys! Congrats Jim on your run, we were all cheerin for ya!

And I think jim told me he was running 300x's on taylor mids and sportmasters.

skaterjim 09-02-2012 06:59 AM

Thanks to everybody! boat was running good. I had a good second pass going but the plastic clip on the tpi linkage broke off that finished my day. 300x motors 2.5 gearcases and 15 inch taylor mids, and lots of set up time. Congrats to Steve Wallace 28 skater 300x 117mph pass he always runs well.

skaterjim 09-02-2012 08:34 AM

I'm planning on using the 15x34 too. It's good to know someone is having awesome success with the merc 3 blade cleavers

I have had good results with the 3 blade mercs. There is a guy locally with some dewalds and we are going to try and swap props to see what we both think about the two sets. Everbody that has tried my 3 blades picked up speed and like them enough to want to buy them. I will give an accurate speed on both boats and both props the day we swap.

davidmercury 09-27-2012 06:53 AM

Great, keep up the good work! I'm interested in what you find out

SS930 09-28-2012 04:32 PM

Amazing numbers Jim for 300x powerheads, congrats!

I would imagine the boat feels pretty loose with this setup and completely aired-out, does it?

SS930 that shot was taken at 122 so you can see it was not aired out that good. The wind was blowing 15 to 20 mph from the back which was actually pulling air out of the tunnel. If there was less or no wind it would pack air better and would go a little faster. Really cant feel much difference from 115 to 125 in handeling.

jayboat 09-28-2012 08:46 PM

Thanks Jim- just hit the gallery if you want a print.

Larry Gempp Jr. 09-29-2012 07:41 PM

What class is this considered and what are the rules? I saw some of these passes at LOTO, looked great. To be fair to the Doug Wright boat, he had 300XS's on it, a huge difference from X's. Congrats to both.

skaterjim 09-30-2012 09:06 AM

There are many classes. 27-31 ft stock and modified then 32-35 stock and mod and also canopied, pro, amature, outboard, inboard.
