86 24 Skater fuel tanks??
 

A buddy of mine is buying an 86 24 Skater. We were wondering if the gas tanks might be a problem. I'm told because of the age and resins used at that time the tanks will be fine. I've got a few vintage motorcycles w/fiberglass tanks and ethanol IS a problem and will destroy a tank in short order.

Can someone explain this in detail?

Only time those tanks won't be a problem is if the boats been runned of 110octaine some one told me that that won't hurt the tanks corect me if I'm wrong tho? But to answer your questions yes look at used 24's and the ones from 40-50k will say tanks have been done and the ones that seem to be cheap still have the old tanks so unless it's a smoking deal on the boat I wouldn't get it.

mine is an 89 and no problem at all they are a red color inside hard as a rock , ,when they start coming apart they get gummy inside and clog up the filters big time,,,pull the sender and look inside that should tell you,,,peter said the early boats would be no problem but you never know,,,,,,,
