28 Skater Opinions

I am looking for some feedback from Skater owners and people who know the 28.

I specifically want to know about the ownership experience.

How functional is the boat as a run around go fast for a guy and his wife and potentially a kid? Can you run say to the beach with a toddler in the boat as long as you dont drive fast or like a moron?

How are they to drive?

How is the maintenence? What are typical failures and costs?

How are they on fuel?

Can they run rough water? Specifically Great Lakes and slightly smaller lakes.

How do they tow?

What are the strengths and weaknesses in general?

How functional is the back seat?

Aside from Offshore Only does anyone know of boats for sale currently or that could be for sale?

Thank you in advance.

AH.

It all depends on the motors you pick. If you have a set of 2.5's, my vote is that it changes the boat to a non-family-friendly setup. if you had a set of promax 300s or the like, then yes the boat can be a very well rounded ride! It doesnt hop like the 24 does, its not a violent ride and it has quite a bit of freeboard for that size of boat.

The backseat is functional but theres about 10 different designs. If you get the bench that has the little humps as seat dividers with the vinyl loop handles, it makes life in the backseat a lot more livable.. With a flat bench and the bar by your calves, you feel like you're riding a bull when you're back there.

Towing can be done by a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. I've towed a 28 with a lincoln navigator and had no issues at all and was BARELY legal.

Fuel, drivability, motor issues all depend on what motor you choose. Good luck, the 28 is an incredible boat that will do almost anything you ask it to..

Car seats fit under dash are pretty kid friendly!

They are great boats, easy to tow and launch, great on fuel with 300 XS, and a total blast to run. Mine has a hop at 50-60 but the tunnel tab takes it away. After 60 extremely stable and smooth. They make the fla keys small, point to point is so fast if wanted. Storage behind back seat, tunnel tab makes a swim step, and lots of shade in the tunnel.
