#6 Drives and Props Throw in............:lolhit:

mickeymcclgn 11-01-2013 09:38 AM

Lol... Freebie! From monster garage when Jessie James would get 30,000$ worth of gear for nothing. For some off the wall project.

Tcraft 11-01-2013 10:02 AM

This is the Boat? Current asking price just pays for the pair of used engines and trailer
Used #6 Drives and props are $35K+

Could find your buyer here........ To be honest.... Prob the only place you will find some with the scratch and want

mickeymcclgn 11-01-2013 10:19 PM

I'm not trying to fan the flames here but I absolutely love when people come on a forum, express that they are new here, that they're trying to get into boats and building boats for a living and want opinions. So the knowledgeable (and not so knowledgable I'll put myself in that category) guys on here spend time giving said person their advice because they have been there and done that and the person in question proceeds to tell these seasoned performance boaters that they don't know what they are talking about because it wasn't what they wanted to hear. Then proceeds to tell these guys that boats with extensive damage can be fixed on the cheap by some sort of secret technique that will revolutionize the fiberglass repair world, and he has designed this process from his many years of working with glass (although he is only 19 which hey it's great to be 19 and doing what you love and gaining experience but I'll tell you this, I'm 30, a master electrician and have been in the field 13 years and I haven't experienced everything my trade has to over (albeit close to everything) you won't be able to pull off a project of this magnitude because you have yet to gain the experience needed to have people trust you with thousands upon thousands of their money, and working on someone's million dollar boat doesn't mean they trust you with their boat it means they trust your boss and your bosses insurance with their property. Trust me I deal with this with my helpers on a daily basis. Your boss is responsible for you and what you do at work much like I'm responsible for my helpers.

So take the advice from the people on here, find a smaller performance boat for free or cheap, piece it together and try and break even, or make a small profit. Then you will know exactly what dollars and cents it takes to build a boat. and don't say you know because you don't know until you have built an actual boat. Not a jet ski or a dirt bike or scooter. But an actual performance boat start to finish, then you can learn by experience of what works and what doesn't. Then decide from that process how you want to tackle the next one.

Wow I've wrote way too much on a post I don't care enough about. My good deed for the year, now I'm going to go push a nun down some steps.

Good luck in your future endeavors

Did ya buy the boat?

315duramax 12-18-2013 09:43 PM

working on it actually. just holding out on it until i find a new space to rent because my shop right now only has a 10' door and i need a 13' due to the 12' beam. Im also trying to figure out 'legal' way to get around duty because im not paying duty on that price just to get it into the states. making motions though.

Dear Lord, I can't believe I missed this post/line last month. I just spit grape juice all over my office. LMFAO! I guess I'm buying paint this weekend. It's my own fault for drinking grape juice and reading the this forum though.

Maybe someone has a revolutionary way to paint walls they can suggest?

315duramax 12-18-2013 10:03 PM

you see, im not going to get sucked into a thread thats going to come back because its winter, BUT, lets just say for a second that i did get sucked in, do YOU have any idea how to make a PERFECT mold of a boat that lets just say has a 8' hole the total height of the hull with changing contours, shape and accommodating steps in the hull with in an hour and be able to lay up the kevlar, carbon and glass to take the beating of a boat like that would? AND be able to take that mold off next day? Because i sure do! and we've done it before on a boat screwed up worse than the mixed emotions boat. :readinghelp:

Not sure if this is funny or sad. Definitely entertaining. Can I have the last 15 min back?

you are correct, its not darr. I actually did talk to this guy (kid) a month or two ago. went into some pretty good detail about a few of my projects as well as an automated process that I developed, many on here dont know that I am a degreed engineer . . . . which is why I am curious about his answer to my question.

not sure off hand. i am just going off that the 40 was hooked up to a ford 350 in some pics the guy sent me so i figured i would be able to haul it to my shop from CT. and all the 46's were hooked up to semi's and 5500's etc.

Where are you located in CT?

Unlimited jd 12-21-2013 10:02 AM

He is not. The 40' "skater" he spoke of was that pos 39 across the street from Kevin's marina, the one that was backed up to the fence is.

its just a product with a chemical composition that resists adhesion to the resin that i use to create the mold, thats all. and yes i appreciated talking with you dave a few months ago! lots of great info.

thanks, we did have a long chat and I appreciate your enthusiasm. trust me I have been there and done that, been self employed nearly my whole life. I have been reading your posts lately and, please take this as constructively as you can, take a few steps back and lead with the things you've done not the things your going to do. I see a lot of "im gonna this and im gonna that" and thats all well and good but in this biz it will kill you. not purchasing a boat because it wont fit through a shop door is an easy out and while you may very well "want to" purchase it becomes a waste of time for people that are deeply rooted in this biz. the very people you want on your side. again I can appreciate your enthusiasm but keep it in check chasing boats is not like chasing cars. I have been in the biz for a long time the math for flipping boats is a complex equation and is not what you think it is. feel free to call anytime I am always up for talking boats. in this biz your not necessarily in competition with others, all the smartest and best shops/people seem to work together on many levels. you burn enough bridges and you end up on an island all by yourself.

315duramax 12-21-2013 04:02 PM

Oh I know that. Appreciate it. And as I said, I'm not looking for an out, just need to move into a bigger shop before I can purchase the boat. I know that alot of places work together, and I have done alot in this line of work but none of which will interest alot of people. Alot of people are just jumping on the band wagon of hating. I've owned multiple businesses and actually sold 2 already. Have investors lined up mainly just because of my business plan. I'm not just some kid hoping and wishing. And saying "oh I can do it screw what you say" I appreciate what y'all say and know that I won't shut you all up until you see pics so just hold on, I'm workin on somethin here

Flightplan 01-14-2014 12:25 PM

While we wait let me tell you all about an idea that I'm currently trying to patent. I have designed a way to do major structural repairs to fiberglass boats using nothing but Saran Wrap and candle wax. We are having great (ok,maybe not great) successes in the far north, but cant quite get it to work in the southern climates.

Wish us luck....

This thread is hilarious. I attended my son’s high school graduation ceremony this past weekend and this thread reminds me of the 12 valedictorians who gave wisdom themes to their graduating class. First of all why is the highest academic achievement award going to 12 people, back in my day we had one but I digress. Suggestions like just keep swimming and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. I just kept thinking you kids have no idea what you’re talking about but good luck🤣

boy this thread aged pretty well though huh 🤣

I don’t know what happened in the 11 years since this thread started, but it seems like you did quite well considering your aspirations.
