Dale it was more for fun than anything else. I like a challange and wanted to do something different. Just like your 15" xs motors. I look forward to the results as well. Just need to find time to go boating. Unlike you guys that live on a lake or river the weather down here does not always cooperate and couple that with owning a business it equals no time for boating LOL!!!

Can we just go ahead right now and make this the OB Skater post of the year? I can't even imagine someone topping this one, regardless how drunk they get.

Flightplan 01-20-2015 12:13 PM

Should someone contact Outboard Protective Services at some point? Im a little torn.

It got a good laugh out of most of us Andy my Velocity brother. I don't drink much anymore but Johnny Walker of any color is a friend of mine. I used to carry a pint when hiking in my younger days.

We all definitely look forward to your "Xperiment" results Ron! I know you're as technical as any of us, and will have accurate data when you get all your comparison notes compiled. While you're doing all that, I'll just get back to running my "vagina" powered 118mph (so far) 28......... :)

Well, I'm using 35 gallons a side, that should do 250 miles:flag:. Should be great fun, keep fingers crossed for great weather.
The boat is ready to go, like me. It has been a cold winter here, it was 37 last week.

It was 70* here last Sunday with 16 mph winds then in the 20s' as a low this week. They are calling for 57* with 22 mph winds here Saturday. I hope to get out and enjoy the rough again this weekend. Enjoy that beautiful green beast!

Flightplan 02-24-2015 03:17 PM

I went down, checked in, looked at the 3 foot waves rolling into the boat basin, then went for a Rum Runner. The winds were from the north at 30 plus mph. It was Cold. I was wearing a Ski jacket and still cold. Boating is supposed to be fun, so I left the next morning and went home. Yes that is seawater splashing in 15 feet onto the glass.

Double Rigged 02-24-2015 07:11 PM

Going to try again for this weekend. Hopefully Sunday if work does not get in the way....

Flightplan 03-05-2015 10:53 AM

LOL!
I didn't see the boat, that's why I ask. There was someone running a OB cat (maybe a 30 Motion or something similar). He ran the run, but it had to be one ugly ride for the poor guy! :D

Thats the water I wait for all year. It's a blast to run in if your properly dressed.

Zero Patience 03-05-2015 02:55 PM

Let's go back and celebrate Tax Day on April 15th. Hope the weather is better then.

Double Rigged 03-07-2015 08:55 PM

Went to keys today to run boat. Had one of the worst boating days ever.
Started out with 1-2' waves due to wind. Port motor has a mass airflow sensor fail. Got TPI switch alarms at WOT on both motors. After prop change 25 miles from boat ramp running back broke fwd clutch dogs port motor. Boat does not plane on one motor with cleaver props. Found reverse gear ok. Idle for hour and found sand bar. Install right hand prop on LH rotation. Put motor in reverse and use it to get on plane. After running 40mph on one engine 6miles from ramp run stbd tank (good motor) out of gas.
Idle with port motor 20 gallons left in reverse with R/H prop to ramp. Got boat on trailer around 6:00pm.
Repairs/gear case swap tomorrow. HP Boating at its best!!!
I love this sport.

Onetime 03-07-2015 08:58 PM

300 XS, reliable stock power, put new ones on when the warranty expires👀👀👀👍
Sorry for the bad luck, it could happen to any of us. You will get it sorted out.

I hear ya buddy. No pain no gain as they say! I have blown up my share of XS powerheads as well as welll as lower units too. I have to say though the motors pull very strong looking forwad to getting it back on the water. I can tell you this guys I am buying a set of small 25 pitch round ear props and mounting them up front for when you go on those long runs. I will also say the motors are like I expected fuel hungry especially with the hgher RPM's.

lightspeed 03-08-2015 08:43 AM

time to put the xs mtrs back on

Taboma 03-08-2015 09:20 AM

Wow Ron! Tuff day at least! Hope the kids were not around. My mouth would have spewing four letter words equal to the rooster tail from those "X's". Keep up the good work. I know you will work in out. Bring your boat to "God's country" and rid yourself of all that pain. LOL, David

Double Rigged 03-08-2015 04:57 PM

I was lucky no wife or kids! Just me and my buddy Tom. All in all the motors are great. I am just going to go ahead and replace both MAP sensors and possibly the TPI's if we do not find anything on the computer when we check it out. I did see in the Mercury service manual that with the faults I was getting the motors were cut back by gaurdian mode to 80 percent. If what we experienced is with 80 percent than you XS guys better watch out! LOL
As for the gearcase oh well its not like they dont blow up.
