any way to keep cracks in canopies from spreading?

I've got a 36 with the cut down canopies and both of them have started cracking where they have been drilled for fastening to the boat. I couldn't see the cracks until I stripped the border paint off (the paint was starting to flake off in spots).

I plan on making the border a little wider to conceal the cracks if they spread a little, but is there any trick to treat these from spreading kind of like the epoxy used in windsheild repair?(Maybe that would work???)

This has got to be a common issue with these, as my boat is not that old, 2009 model.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have heard of people drilling a small but wider hole than the crack at the end of the crack. I am not sure of the results longterm.

Called "stop drilling" When a crack forms on metal, hard plastics, fiberglass, etc. you drill a small hole at each end of the crack to stop the crack from spreading.

You then go ahead and make your repair of the crack itself, whether you are welding, using filler, glue, fiberglass or whatever.
