david...maybe you and I should get together and talk about these 400's LOL...boat is running great by the way! no issues since the air compressor failure other than running out of gas a few times LOL.

The tie bar mounts to the outter plate. They cut the shroud just enough for the plate to come through. I will take another look at again next time I am over there to confrim for you guys. If so not to big a deal as it would come apart pretty easy.
The ports side chap does not have to be removed for an oil change. The oil drain plug is on the lower side of the cavitation plate on the port side, just above the lower unit.
