Time to Upgrade my Trailer Brakes!

Well, you guys told me so! My surge brake actuator was locking my disk brakes (on one side only?) on my way to Table Rock Lake last week. Had to weld the actuator to keep it from moving and applying hydraulic pressure to the calipers. Found a mom and pop hardware store on my route to weld it. A nervous trip W/O brakes! What equipment are you guys using for electric over hydraulic? What type of controllers? Are there any controllers that can be moved from vehicle to vehicle? Thanks, David

http://hydrastarmarine.com/shop/ They have nice conversion kit! My truck has the built in controller, so I can't help you there.

Off topic are you coming to LOTO??if you told me yes I've already forgotten....

Yes, I will be there! My boat, however will not because of the trailer brake issue. Too bad! I'll look you up. David

If you're handy with tools/brakes, you could have the conversion done by Wed and on the road to LOTO ! :-)

A couple of hours are all you need - plus overnighting the parts.

I am looking at "Brakerite D7Brakerite RF" Has any one used this or have any info about it? I like the idea of transferring from vehicle to vehicle as that is what I will do.

You have to have a boat. You will be sick when you get there if you don't. Just drive slow!! I'll pm you my number. We are staying at Camden.

I use brakerite, my trailer build is on here, look at it. Can be converted in 3-4 hours including the new Kodiac rotors and calipers.

I installed the Brakerite II RF two years ago, with Kodiak all stainless steel break kit with ceramic pads for salt water use. Pulling 8000lb - 9000lb boat with 1 ton truck using 3 - 4 gain on brake controller (brakes on two axles) . Breaking is smooth with no lag. Trailer brakes will work with controller off but its jerky and you will not like it LOL.
