28 Skater Engine Centers
Kind of going out to double rigged and anyone else who might know.
What centers have you found the engines to be mounted on 28's from the factory? Any variation from the factory? Has any experimentation been done on different centers, how much of prop blade is in the tunnel, best location for speed vs handling? Curious what the centers were on the Secret Agent/Mobil1 boat and others that were exceptional performers. |
I'll get a measurement tomorrow for ya.
|
I've always wondered if this was set in stone or varied with whomever was doing the rigging.
|
I will have to look and see if I have it in my notes. I would pm Dale (Rayzor) or Skater Jim. They both have some very fast boats.
|
Anybody get a chance to measure? Just measuring tie bar centers will give it.

Mine are 51 1/8" from Skater. Photo was when I got the boat. Props are now Dewalds turning out.

There is a 24 running around that the engines are out 1 1/2" each side, its a copy of the old agitator 32, Kirk (sp) Dutman set it up, and a someone i know bought it. He might be able to help with set up questions

Mine are at 51" also and boat s factory drilled. Wonder if the ones rigged by others were set up the same or not.
The 24 mentioned with the engines moved out 1-1/2", how did it perform and handle compared to original location? |

Out lifted the stern and gave it a more "solid" feel. It was really noticeable.
|
Taboma, I agree with you, the feel was more wetted, stuck to the water without sacrificing top speed. Props were spinning outward, I do remember a discussion about setting the boat up this way for more ruff water applications.

Mine are 52 3/4"

That is interesting! Who drilled them? Now I am really interested in what other 28's have. I guess that is why this thread was started!

1996 28' Skater ... 51 1/4 center to center. :-)
|
So there really isn't a standard distance for these. Interesting...
|
Ya just pull out the 'lectric drill and eye-ball it!!?? :D
|
So Skater does not recommend centers for their boats?
|
It appears that Skater pretty much used around 51" centers.
Razors boat is 51-5/8" according to Al Stoker who rigged it. Said it was pre drilled by Skater when he received the boat. The one that is set wider was also done at the factory so maybe they were playing with it. Was hoping Ron would find his old notes to see if that was played with on the race boat. Razor is in with Pete so maybe he can call and get the inside scoop as to weather there was any handling/running differences at different centers. |
