Size of 40 on trailer
In the process of buying land to build a boat storage building on and looking at how big I need to go. I am thinking of a longer length, something around 100' and putting the smaller boats in the side, next boat shooting for a 28, the ultimate goal is a 36 skater but I know how things change and no one ever has a dock or building big enough for their boat. For building purposes, how tall with the windshield and how wide is a 40 on the trailer?
Trying to see what size doors and side of building would be needed in extreme case. |
Depends which 40, but 16 ft wide is good 18 ft door is comfortable. Height 12 is good 16 if you plan to have a tilt.

Make it as big as possible, because one day you'll be old and own a fly bridge :lolhit: no garage is ever big enough .

My 308 is 40' long on trailer and 9'6" wide. I have a 14' x10' door with 12' ceilings. I cannot stand on deck inside without hitting my head on trusses.
Also figure in tow rig length if you want to leave attached. I would leave minimum 12" clearance each side of your beam and 24" would be awesome. Remember when you back it in and it's wider than your tow rig mirrors you loose visual of the sides at the door at some point. Not good when your by your self. Drive thru shop would be awesome. |
was told to figure shop size you need double it and you fill it up with crap anyway... looks like 200'x 100' should work for ya :lolhit:

That's what I am afraid of haha.
How long is a trailer on a 36 and a 40? I remember they seem like a mile. |
I have a 40 Skater and with the trailer its right at the 50' mark - width is 12'. Actually rented a shed that's 14' X 50' with the thought that we might make the 49.99' mark. Problem is, is that at 14' wide there's no chance in hell to make her fit if you have to hit any kind of an angle backing in. A foot on each side is just to tight and that's with 2 guys watching both sides.....not to mention its not the trailer that's going to hit - its the overhang of the boat.
