I'm going to try to figure out how to reduce my hop at the speed I desire - I would like to cruise at 60-70. Right now that is without a doubt the work porpoise spot for my boat. It comes out of it in the low 80s. My porpoise range is high 50s to almost 80. Our big skater only has about a 10mph range where that occurs. 50mph is too slow and 80mph is too fast for leisurely cruise speed.

I have 160lbs of ballast in the bow (at the second stringer) for rough water and 32 dewlads with 18deg rake.

I'd prefer to do something easy - like move weight around or change the amount of weight rather than messing with props or anything else that requires a wrench and spending more money.

I'm curious about other 28 owners experiences and suggestions.

Can you lower your motors about 3/4 to 1 inch

Or a old school monster Tab. Mine hopped from 80 to 85. I just lived with it.

There is no way to cruise 60-70 on flat water in either a 28 or 30 Skater with outboards - like you stated, that's right in the middle of their porpoise range. I have found that the lighter the setup, the lower the porpoise speed range. Of the 3 28s I've owned, my last one had the lowest porpoise speed range, which was 45-70mph (w/ Dewald 35s). It only weighed 3,800#s dry w/ 3.2s on the back. Both of my other heavier 28s porpoised from 50-75/80. I was just out in my buddy's 30 w/ XSs on the back, and it porpoises from 55-70. I'm certain a large tunnel tab will help settle the porpoise, but I highly doubt it will give you a smooth ride at 60-70mph on flat water. Just get your 318 ordered and find a buyer for your beautiful 28! I've not been in a 30/318 w/ 400Rs on the back yet, but I'm guessing the porpoise will be very similar to the 30 I was just out in w/ XSs on the back. I'm guessing my lightweight 30 is going to porpoise from 50-70 or so with those big/heavy 400Rs on the back.

I completely agree with you - I was much happier with my last 28 that I could cruise 70-75 on flat water than my previous 28s that I had to cruise 80-85. And the 30/318 is even better, with such a small (15mph) window of porpoise from 55-70 - almost like your 40 (which is one of my favorites btw!).

Might be easier to just get a DCB and have your big 40.

KPlane tab in tunnel helps some just be careful where you run it at WOT. Makes a great swim platform!

the 18 degree rake is probably why u have such a large porpous window with the extra bow weight for rough
rake is trying to lift bow at lower speeds but not enough speed for tunnel to hold it
if tried old school 15 degree x32 may close the gap for the rough set up
as stated motor height plays big role if set up for max speed up high more slippage
and with bow weight for rough ,,may be fighting each other to hold bow below 80
