That all said, besides the cost, what would be a drawback of the Jim Lee style wraparound windshield? It seems like it would also protect the rear seat passengers better, as it is a bit taller, and the sides go back much furthur, but maybe I am missing something. Thanks! Not only th added weight in the front but the downforce it provides changes the boat. I'm looking into getting it done....it's that good. |

just finishing out my buddy glyns 28 skater restoration,,,,
got it up and going a few months back I made a wrap around windshield plug on my 28 then made a mold off of that to get and exact fitting windshield made it with a more estectic angle and length to match fairing better even followed the side angle to match the side of fairing this is the 1st prototype I made and installed local glass shop couldn't get 12' sheet in in time so had it made in 2 piece so next will be 1 piece wraparound and have machine made mounts, asc wqe know 1st 1 is a test but still came out very nice will be testing deflection at tickfaw this weekend next 1 goes on mine ,,,,,,,,,,lol |
just got back from tickfaw
Friday wind was blowing 15-20 so even in small lake water was 4'ers glyn said no wind on him and didn't even blow off his straw hat he wears sat water weather was excellent for speed so he is very pleased as I am the areo is ok but I didn't like the 45deg angle and the metal corners todays look is wraparound so I spent the time to make something with better angles to the hull and wrap 1nce I get the mounting as l like and priced on the shield as a finished piece to just bolt down as I like will lyk jay was in helicopter following @ 100+ for a while so hope have videos and pics from there |
So, you have tested now, how is it. Does the windshield create any downforce on the boat that you could feel? Does the boat run the same speed? Did you like the tinted glass? Are the corners clear?
The windshield looks great on the boat, great job in fabricating a wanted/needed item that is not on the market. Please post a side view of the boat when possible. |
I didn't ride in the boat at tickfaw ,,,I was in another boat
glyn had a full crew and full tanks in poker run mode,,,so no top end #s to try but he said till 100 all felt same that glass is 30% tint and can see through just fine,,,,if wearing dark sunglasses then may be different any glass clear to tinted can be used when molding glass we did tint for estetics,,,boat is white, black, silver themed I knocked the window angle down to match fairing better and longer in length to give approx. same amount of deflection as the aero @ 45deg and 8" long sides are following the side angle of the fairing as said 1rst 1 came out nice,,,,,but i had to do by hand all the 1st mounting to figure out what I wanted,,, now I know bevel at fairing to make glass fit flush to fairing,,,where to drill mounting holes ,,,,,bracketry,,,,black out,,,ect so now can take mold to a high end plastics corp to have it heated, into mold beveled, drilled and blacked out to leave there as a finished piece im pretty anal on fit,,,,,2nd 1 should be what I want for a usable,,, simplified install,,,, I only have the 3 pics I took with boat still here in my shop so if weather good this weekend will try to get some better pics of it on water,,,, |
Fellow OSO friend text me this pic today, looks real nice.

cool,,,thats when jay price was following them in the chopper,,,
also 1st 1 was made 2 piece glass as was out of time to get it on for tickfaw so had done with what was available in stock,,,,8' sheet only next will be 1 piece,,,,,,,can see through just fine @ 30% tint and can see longer and more angle on front in that pic,,,,, I didn't want sides to be tall so be easier to dock to reach over ,,,sides are 3' long tks for pic |
Looks great

I just can't say enough good things about this windshield
very quiet in the boat did not change the attitude of the boat very easy to see thru we went thru the very rough water on Friday and saw no movement what so ever Glyn |
I have used Vermont plastics to make various windshields for me. Might be a good supplier. They used to make all of Outerlimits windshields. Check them out.
