28 Windshield choices

I am doing some homework on potentially buying a 28 Skater. I have not found a suspect yet, but want my ducks in a row if and when I find one. That said, in researching it, I have no doubt that I would want either the Aero Marine or the Lee Aerospace windshield. I believe that I would have the skills to install the AM, but would need to have a shop do the LA one. Within a "grenades throw", can anybody give me some idea of what each direction would cost?

On another complete different note, how about Promax's vs. Optimax's? Some love the fuel range of the Opti's, but others prefer the simpler (less expensive repairs?) of the Promax's.

Aero Marine sold the kit for $3500.00 dollars. The installation was not too difficult but a little tricky with laying it out. Chris at Boat Customs is the one that has the receiver for the Lee Aerospace one. It will require cutting up the deck and glass work. I would not speculate on the price but you can give him a call.
Not sure if anyone else has the means to do it.

If you want good performance and much better mileage the xs is the way to go. There are some older models that are Promax and some that are the 300x. The promax version is not near the motor of a 300x. 2004-2006 are the best years. Fuel mileage at cruise 1.5 or maybe a tad better. However if you are looking for all out performance the 300x is king! Somewhere around 8-10 mph faster over stock 300xs.

Honestly

I'd suggest wearing goggles the first year. The full windshield is $25,000 all in and the other one is not worth it.

The problem with both is getting over the windshield to the bow to do lines and bumpers. There is almost no room on the sides to go around with any windshield so now you have to crawl over it on the bow.

For about $20/set you can get some comfortable goggles that work great.

That being said.....if I keep my 28 long term, I'm going to do the full windshield like Jim Lees. If I could do it all over again....I'd buy the goggles to start.

If you're under 6' tall, 6'-8'' wind deflectors work well. These are 6" tall and laid back at about a 30 degree angle, I could cruise 90+ all day and feel fine when I got home.

just finishing out my buddy glyns 28 skater restoration,,,,
got it up and going a few months back
I made a wrap around windshield plug on my 28
then made a mold off of that to get and exact fitting windshield
made it with a more estectic angle and length to match fairing better
even followed the side angle to match the side of fairing
this is the 1st prototype I made and installed
local glass shop couldn't get 12' sheet in in time so had it made in 2 piece
so next will be 1 piece wraparound and have machine made mounts,
asc wqe know 1st 1 is a test but still came out very nice
will be testing deflection at tickfaw this weekend
next 1 goes on mine ,,,,,,,,,,lol
