Eliminating water pick-up on bottom of hull
I’ve got a 32A I am doing major surgery to (can be found in the Restoration and upgrade section) and I am curious if any of you guys have ditched the “through hull” water pickup on the bottom of the sponson for a hull mounted adjustable pickup. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f3dacb2e6.jpeg Photo courtesy of Teague’s website The boat is getting ASD 7’s hung on the transom and the plan would be to build my own adjustable pickup that is mounted off the Arneson box. I would feed the water through a bulkhead fitting into a hose ran through the box and into the transom. Pros I see are: -No holes in the hull -Ability to mount in a different place in effort to gain cleaner more undisturbed water to the prop -Vertically adjustable to better control water PSI -More room in bilge -Less drag? Cons: -Quite a bit of work -If drives are changed in the future pickups will need to be altered -Possibility for bigger objects in the water to catch/grab/ try to tear off where as the Skater pickups they would hopefully slide under and cause glass damage. -may not drain as well Water Pick ups on the Skate as of now: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f6762dda4.jpeg Under looking up and through existing pickup https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9fb5b3de1.jpeg Stern looking to bow https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...51b980585.jpeg Starboard looking to port Any input and real life data much appreciated! -Ross |
that pick up has years of testing behind it and it works very well we were doing the same style on or big v-bottoms for better water volume Regards Dan

Leave them. They work. They also make a cleaner transom.

Did you ask Pete his opinion?

Thanks archer and txhawk I have not asked Pete his opinion yet. I try not to bother him as I know he is always busy. |
