368 Conversion to O/B

I was wondering if anyone could offer some feedback on costs/requirements associated with converting a 2005 368 to outboards (400/450r). Other than filling in the transom holes and obvious rigging changeovers, is there anything that has to be done to the hull to accommodate outboards? I'm sure the transom would have to be supported with knees inside the bilge but what about the running surface?

Why not just buy the 2017 that just got rigged with 450s?

Waterboy_v2.0 07-23-2020 12:15 PM

Where is it listed? I haven't seen it I guess..

The old owner of Offshoreonly.com has it.

I'll have him chime in here

Boat is being water tested this weekend and will then be on the market. No changes are necessary to the bottom due to the added weight of the motors. I opted to install water ramps to help guide more water to the motor so the motors could be run higher. My boat never had the transom cut for I/O's so I did not have any issues to deal with there.

Boat will be on the market shortly, a lot of custom features were done to this boat and 8 years of extended warranty. It has C-Zone, three Garmin touch screens, alcantara interior, and a very advance GPS tracking system that integrates in with the c-zone and allows you to monitor battery levels, turn battery switches off remotely, and a lot more. Boat sits on a brand new Evolution Aluminum trailer. Boat was re-rigged by Supreme Marine, National and World Champion Super Stock (Outboard Cat) Racer who has also been inducted in to the Hall of Champions. I chose Supreme not only because of that but also because Supreme Marines, Troy Hannon, has over 30 years of high performance experience and was taught by one of the most respected High Performance Rig shops in the business, Bobby Moores Custom Marine.

As you can imagine there are many trade secrets that racers use that I can't discuss on the internet but I would be happy to tell you some of my experiences with the process. It has been a fun project and I am off to the next one.

Steve, Great info! Sounds like the boat will be an incredible setup (and well outside of my price range!) I would love to see some pictures of it though!

He’s probably talking about this boat:

https://seaboundyachts.com/2005-368-skater/

Quick math:

$140k purchase price
-$45k selling 525’s
-$35k selling drives
= $60k for bare canopy 368 on trailer

+$70k for wraparound conversion and nice interior
+$100k for new 450’s
+$50k for transom glass work and simple paint
= $280k with new 450’s and wraparound.

seems like the guys with his all done would want more than that, so to me it makes sense to buy the old race boat and pic out all your colors, etc...

You're not far off. But with a cut canopy instead of wraparound conversion and interior... Paint could be covered with a wrap as well..

Boat has triple Garmin, C-Zone, Alcantara Interior, 2020 Aluminum Evolution trailer and 8 years of extended Mercury warranty.

Boat is Carbon Fiber, electronic and rigging were updated for the 450's by some of the best in the business.

Boatlesss 08-13-2020 04:46 PM

Was this a fresh rig on a new hull or a repower?

OSOSteve 08-13-2020 05:16 PM

Fresh Rig new hull as a 400R boat sold with 34 hours and new owner re-rigged with 450’s. Boat has spent more time sitting waiting to be completed than on the water between the original build and the virus build. Pics and receipts tell the entire story.

OSOSteve 08-14-2020 08:58 AM

I edited the above post to clarify the boats transom was a fresh rig on a new hull, transom had never been drilled.

OSOSteve 08-26-2020 01:23 AM

Here is the maiden voyage, the first two hours are break in so have not had a chance to get a top speed number. Ran out of prop and had very high water pressure to motors need to come up and larger pitch prop but there were a lot of rpm's left and were in the triple digits already obviously.

Special thanks to Troy Hannon from Supreme Marine and John Tomlinson from TNT Custom Marine for providing the power when 450's were hard to get and his input on some rigging recommendations from a recent rig job he did on a similar boat.
