28 Skater: Please post pictures of where you have mounted pumps and oil tanks

As I am restoring my 28 Skater by replacing 300 eTecs with 300XS, I need some inspiration.

Please post some pictures of where you have mounted trim pumps, the K-plane pump (if you have a tunnel tab), jack plate pumps (if you thought life was too simple with manual jack plates) and oil tanks (if you have one of those newfangled engines where you don't pre-mix).

Over the years, as 300X engines were replaced with eTec engines and Bob's hydraulic jack plates were added, things have been moved around. Just adding the external trim pumps for the 300XS will make it even worse. But this problem has been solved before.

Markus,

Lots of threads here in Skater forum for CG --> https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ml#post4430535

if you contact "Double Rigged" he can share some pics of what he did to his 28, was looking for it but could not find it

Thanks!

Yeah, the Outboard Skater thread is great. I have read it up and down, and took an extra look the other day.

While there are plenty of photos of boats on trailers and of boats in the water and of dashes, and even some photos of scantily clad women, there was only one photo of what's behind the rear hatch.

Thank you for looking for Double Rigged's photos. I thought I took some photos of MCRacing's 28 which was rigged with 300XS and amazingly clean, but I cannot find them.

I have not done it myself, but I would mount the pumps and batteries in front of the dash for a better center of balance. It would also leave more, better storage.

What are you going to do with the Etecs? What props did you run? What kind of speeds and hole shots? There is allot that I like about the Etecs, but the final gear ratio makes it tough on a 28. There is a gentleman in Australia that has etecs on his racing cat.

Thanks!

That's useful advice. At least I don't need to be worried about mounting things too far forward even if mounted behind the rear seat. Right now, batteries are up against the back seat.

I will sell the etecs. The boat came with the same 'Set up at Lake X' Bravo Is that it had with 300X engines, so it just hit the limiter with the eTecs. Speed was clearly not a priority of the previous owners, but the engines had an easy life.

eTecs are nice engines, by the way. They come across as more sophisticated than the 300XS. Not distinct enough versus 4-strokes for people to want to buy enough of them, though.__PRESENT
