Hi!
Start soon rigging on our 28 Skater, so maybe you can help us ut when we are into the great fun? Cheeeers, Toffen |
Apache,
I thought it was just me, but there must be a special club on OSO that I'm not in because I can't seem to talk with anyone on here. I'm no newbe....been a member since 2001....I just don't have a big V with IO. S&F seems to be a much more down to earth group. The fact of the matter is that my little 21 will put a whippin on half of the V's on OSO and they can't stand it. OK...I said it!! |

I agree with you. Were are all the people that own 21, 24 and 28 Skaters. They must not be interent savy. Osprey look at my 24 skater update in this section

Apache,
Rigging looks great! I have been watching the progress on each new post. Is eveything up and running??? Can't imagine how much work the gearcases have been. Looks very good, and just in time for the season. Looking forward to seeing some pics of it on the water. |
Skater owners
Hi!
OSO is a nice place for inboards. Not so many outboards there. When I have asked outboard questions, people at OSO have directed me to S&F. However, when I have dreamed about a Formula 38 Fastech, a Outerlimits, etc, poeple have been helpful. On the other hand, I am also curious where all 21,24 and 28 Skater owners are! I did some questions about rigging a 28 Skater two years ago, but I can not find the answers. What is the correct propshaft height running 2 x Merc 2.5 Offshores? We will spin the props outward. Any point with powerjacks (CMC stainless 5,5 inch), or should we mount the enhines direct on the transom. Any good ideas for props? Cheeeers and thanks, Toffen G |
i hear where you are coming from
i spend more time in s&f now i dont think i can help you , i have a 24 ,spinnig inward props, and i have lower water pickups made in the hull have you tried peter or someone at douglas marine |
Toffen,
My days are light here on OSO mainly because it's so difficult to talk with anyone here. I will tell you that there is a pretty good report , you may have to search for it a little, on ScreamandFly.com about spinning in or out and which works best. I read it and it was pretty interesting. One way gave a little better top end but lacked overall control, the other way was a little slower but there were substancial handling improvements. I can't remember which was in and which was out. I used to have a 24 w/twins and we alway asked the same question but never bothered to do the switch. The posts are interesting, but I'm in a single OB 21 Skater now so I guess the info didn't attach to a brain cell...or I can't find that cell at the moment. See you on SCREAMANDFLY.COM |
By the way, I had spinning inward on my 24. Most people spin inward that I know.

Hey Big Popa Pump.Any tips on transom mounted water pick ups.I'll be doing transom mounted pick ups next month.Same boat,24 with twin 225's
|
Hi Toffen
I wrote to you 2 years ago on the prop shaft height on the 28' Skater, I had the center of my shafts mounted 1.75" above the bottom of the sponson, not above the rear step of course, I also ran the shafts as height as 2" up to 2.25" but at these heights you have to be very careful about the water pressure.
Regards Philip PS. spin the props outward, right on right side, left on left |
28 Skater
Hi!
Thanks Philip. Cheeers, TG |
skaterfast
my pickups are made in the hull ,came like that , has check valve inline and are run to the exhaust plate. phillip , why inward ,haven't had a problem ? |
It may be different on some cats but some who have tried the switch noticed that inward gave more control but a little less top end. Outward gave more to top end but less control. The control issue was noticable, so they said.
An engineer friend of mine also suggested that if your motors were rotating in, and that they were perfectly alligned on the trailer, at full load the allignment would be off due to inward torc. I wonder if anyone has heard of this or if this is really the case. |
I heard turning them in gives more top speed but less control. Turnning them out gives better control
|
You may be right Apache. I'm not sure which was which. There's a good report somewhere on S&F about it and the tests they ran.
|
i heard the same as apache has, but had no problem handling inward but i have not try it outward
