Shane,

Looks like a real kick ass boat!!! What year? My range is 30's-40, but willing to pay more for the right boat.

Thanks

289FIA 04-19-2004 11:58 AM

BTW, Was this boat for sale in the most recent Powerboat?

Shane 04-21-2004 11:51 AM

289FIA,

No it was not for sale. It is a 1988, repowered with 225 Pro Max Powerheads. New interior in 2000, new bottom paint last year, trailer painted last year as well.

Shane,I have the same set up.What props are you running, rpm and speed? I'm running 34 Merc 4 blades,at 6400 to 6500 rpm I get 101 to 102 mph.I will test the boat in 3 days with transom mouted water pickups and raise the motors another inch.I will be looking for 6800 at 105 or 106.

Shane 04-22-2004 08:14 PM

merc 14.5 X 30 around 7000. i want to go up to 32 or 34's and drop rpm's and pick up some speed. if i trim it out i get 104 or 105 but at neutral to negative trim i get mid 90's

Skaterfast 04-23-2004 12:22 AM

Is that GPS or radar confirmed or speedo? Because thats pretty dam good!

How are you getting 7000 rpm out of 225 promax? My 1997's rev limits are at 6800.

Shane 04-23-2004 02:35 PM

Skaterfast,

It is on a hand held GPS. I bought the motors as short blocks, and took all my 2.5 carb components off and put them on the 225's. Therefore, there are no rev limiters. Keep in mind I do very little WOT running. I mostly cruise in the mid range...60-80. More often than not I am at the 50 to 70 range though.

Thanks for the kind words. Several OSO members have been out with me in the on multiple occassions, GLH, Tantrum, Hot Boat, excavator, Miller etc etc.

Is that ME driving in the first picture? I believe that I was wearing a long-sleeved, white t-shirt in the 1000 Islands. Anyway, SWEET! :D :p

Is the 28 a faster boat than the 24, also why did they stop making the 24?

Yes they are vinyl. My frien Hot Boat from the board and I did them. They are obviously not up to the standard of stickerboy, but who is?

Yes the 28 is faster than the 24. I don't know for certain as to why production stopped, but I can only assume that the margins shrunk on the smaller boats as more people wanted bigger ones, and typically those that can afford only a 24, could not pay the higher price that Skater would have to charge. The 24 is a good all around boat for lakes, rivers, and some rough stuff no doubt. But when you look at the cost of a 28 and its capabilities, the 24 becomes less desirable unless you are constrained by budget issues.

Re: 24 Skater For Sale

There is a blue Skater 24 in the classifieds that looks like it will sell in the low 20's if someone is interested. I just talked to the owner today, and this could be a steal. It's been raining here for a month and he's discouraged.
