New 28 Skater

To me atleast. Its a 2000 28 with 300 promax's. Boat is running 14.5x32 Merc Cleavers. Just wondering what you other guys with this setup are running. Also what oil are you running with the 300 promax's. I have heard Mercury doesnt recommend running 100% synthetic on the x's but having a hard time finding what others are running with the 300 promax's. The previous owner was running Amsoil Dominator which was recommended by the mechanic. Any info or tips would be great. Thanks a lot

Wayne

Yes, just got the Skater. I bet you like those 300x's!! The promax's push the boat quite well, but have heard the x's are about 6-8mph difference.

Dreamboater What rpm are you running? I would guess you would be on the rev limiters with 32s I have 300pms on my 30 motion and run 15x34 three blades and still hit the limiters If everything is right on you rig I think you should run well over 110 maybe 115mph. Where are you in MD.?

6300 stock rev limiters. Just got the boat Saturday so have not run it over 80 yet. 110 maybe on its best day. The boat has probably 300lbs of sterio equipment in it. I was told to run 14.5x34's for top end. Still trying to get used to the boat before I worry about top end though. You have a very fast 30 motion, but if I remember isnt that the one with half canopy's and back to back seating? I am sure it is not much heavier than my 28 Skater. I live in Southern Maryland and boat on the Potomac River.

Congrats Wayne. Awesome looking boat, and look forward to seeing you out their spanking Randy in the OL.

I would give a shout to Mark House, 'skater' on OSO; [email protected]

I am sure you know him, lives in Culpeper, VA; used to have a 37AT (boat is still on the River), and now races in the former In-MOcean Skater. When he had the S-69 Bodyguard, he was very knowledgeable about the 2.5s and the 300Xs.

Dad is running around 112 now, and accelarates quite hard. Dont think I will be spanking him with stock motors. I was thinking about talking to Mark House when I am see him again. I know he had a 28 w/the same power. His was also set up at lake x. Thanks again for the compliments.

Dreamboater Mark's boat went 115mph at lake x, at that time it was the fastest 28 with promax motors they had seen.
Yes my boat has tandem seating but full canopies, your 28 should be faster. The 34s will hurt the low end but should help the big numbers. The boys in New York with the fast 28' 300x boats seem to like a 14.75x34 3blade prop. Let us know how it works out for you. good luck.
