Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
Does the built in cooler in the passenger dash work as well as a regular carry on cooler? Fabricated a plug for the drain hole which empty's out the side of the boat to keep the warm air out and the cold air/water in.
Just curious how well it works on the hot days or is it better used for storage??? |
Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
i use mine all the time keep the plug out.i fill it with my favorite beverage put two bags of ice and i still have ice a day later.its fully insulated one of the great things from sonic. it's better than going to the cabin for a cold one.

Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
I think it drains to the bilge not outside and that little opening will not make a difference. I love mine no cooler to get in the way but my 26 held a lot more than me 31.

Mine is T-ed into the line from the sink drains out the side of the boat not into the bilge I plugged them both off. Use the cooler as a glove box....

I use mine every weekend. Works great. Best thing is that you just tell the passenger in the port bolster that you need a drink, and they don't have to go anywhere to get it. Safer than getting out of the bolster and going into the cabin when your running.

I figured it out when I opened the engine hatch  . Did you get that part I sent? |
Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
Sounds like a good thing we got here!!!! Mine is piped to the outside, not sure if it's from factory or the previous owner did it. When I brought it home, had the hose in there to clean it out. Guess I'll have to find another place for my cleaning supplies!!!!
Sooooooooooooooo... The big question, with a bag or two of ice, just how much beer can one fit in these coolers.... not that I care, but I'm sure some of you have filled this sucker up!!!! One of my many projects is to put a 12v outlet in my new passenger dash and cabin to handle the blender!!! |

I'm able to fit a 30 pack and 1 small bag of ice in mine. not sure if there is a size difference between the 35's & 31's ?

Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
I used mine everytime out. As a matter of fact, mine used to hold ice for days and keep things cold, even in summer.

Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
I tee'd mine to the sink drain so it drains overboard (got the idea off the Sonic forum a couple of years back), why the factory can't do this I'll never know. Sonic's not to big on making any updates  But the cooler is one of their better ideas! :drink: Steve

Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
my 98 prowler drains into the bilge, keeps ice about a day.the only pain is when your popping some good waves the door pops open(old style latch with the 2 balls to hold the pecker in)only thing that could come to my mind. ,dave

Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
I like the indash cooler a lot. I just wished that it didn't drain to the bilge area since my engine compartment is painted yellow, so cooler water from the bilge collects there and has stained the bottom of the bilge- and the boat doesn't take on water from anyplace else.
I guess that I could be having much bigger problems than this to worry about |
Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
I thought about plumbing mine into the sink drain, but the drain from the built in cooler is lower than the sink outlet (by about a foot i thought). I didn't think the water would be able to run uphill to be able to exit out the side????

Re: Built in dash cooler, does it work well??
On a 38 the cooler holds a 30 pack and enough Ice for a day. On mine it drains to the same line which connects to the sink going over board. I installed a ball valve to keep cold ice water in the cooler, it seemed to make the ice last longer.

On my 28SS I used it all the time. This is a great feature on the Sonics.
