Rough water run

Funny thing happened on a run last weekend. I was in a small poker run, and we hit some rough water at the start of the second leg. The old 30ss kept up with many of the boats that were probably 10-15 mph faster. The water smoothed out and I was passed, and many of the other boats caught me to about 300 yards. Then it got rough again(2-3ft from port side), I kept looking back and I could not believe it, I was walking away again(about 6-800 yards). this continued for about 10 minutes, until we hit a bay and smooth water and within a minute I was passed by the several of the boats that were obviously faster. It was an awesome feeling knowing that I could out run boats that had me covered by at least 10 mph in the bumps. It sure looked like they were trying too, when I looked back I could see them bouncing out of the water bow high, and landing on their side. Probably the best day in 5 years of owning this boat :D

Re: Rough water run

I have not taken my new 31ss out in the ocean yet,
but on the Indian River we get 2 to 3 foot chop.
the new boat handles like a dream. So far no one
has been able to pass me when it gets rough.

When I had my 28ss it would take on 4 to 5 foot
seas (and boat wakes) in the ocean with little or
no problem. I would usually run 40 MPH and never
got passed. I can't wait to run the 31ss in the ocean.
It should do 50 MPH where the 28ss would only do 40 MPH.

Re: Rough water run

I led a leg of a Poker Runs America 1000 islands run. 5-6 footers (bottem to top), about 60mph, passed every boat but the pace boat, and I would have passed him if I knew where we were going. Every boat there except 2 were faster than mine, until we came to the big boy water. Even bass boats are fast in flat water. :evilb:

I was running 55-59 (GPS), only lifting when drives came out the water.

This is what I was counting on when I sold my 30' Baja for a 26' Sonic.

Other than crappy out of the hole, it does run good in the rough... and no rattles!

keep trimming the drives and you'll get 65 in 3 footers. you'll feel the boat lift right up and out. if i remember correctly around 5 to 6 notches but its been a while. good to hear its running well.

Seems you're right, so far it likes the drive tucked or out like you said. In the middle area gets a lot of porpoise. I ordered longer tabs from bennet 12 going to 16's. Yeah, I know, not alot and they are Bennetts, but there must be some inprovement. The 12's don't do alot but scrub speed.
