Sonic 42 SS '96
Good day,
I'm new to this forum, sorry if i mix up something here. I bought Sonic 42 SS year 1996, brought it to Sweden, Stockholm. And then the problems started, I found dozens of issues in the boat which are need to be fixed. I want to have the boat in water this year. Can anybody help me? Firstly I want to find Blueprints of the boat. This is needed to recheck all the systems. Is there any company dealing with custom hatches? Is there any good place to look for body parts? Thanks in advance. |
I think he means wiring schematics. I'm not sure if they exist. Contacting the factory is your first step. Posting pics and specefics here is your second. good Luck ! It will be worth it when you're done.
|
I'm sure if you contact Sonic customer support they'll be able to send you by e-mail the wiring diagrams... well, formula did that for me... list your trouble we may help you!
|
Gozee you need to call the factory. Their is only one person there that can help with your problem (BRUCE). This company has been bought and sold twice, he is the only one left from the orignal company and knows these boats very well. I have 1999 45 ss I have bought many parts lately. If you need parts and info you need to call soon, because they are changing their boats, and alot of the parts are going obselete and may not be reordered. They have special ordeded somethings for me. When you call be sure to tell the lady anwsering the phone who you are and where you are calling from, Bruce is hard to get a hold of but not impossible.

Thank you guys for your replies.
Now it's time to start working! =) Then I'm done, I will upload some pics. Once more thank you! |
Let me know what it is your having problems with and I'll try and walk you through.

Hey guys,
I was away for some time, now I'm back with more info about the boat. -It's two Diesel Engines - Twin Yanmar(1x370Hp) -BMAX drives I've made a picture of the boat for you also. http://img100.imageshack.us/my.php?i...img1297eh3.jpg |
My first questions would be.
1)In the documents it's stated that the boat is built year 1996. But the Hull identification Number (HIN) ends "...97". How can it be possible, and what is the real year of this boat? 2)I have a valve, and it has three working positions: 1.Open 2.Close 3.Flow Please can anyone explain to me what does the valve in working position "Flow"? Thank you in advance! |
If the hull number ends in "97" then the boat is a 1997 model. It may have been built in 1996 but is actually a 97
I am only assuming that the valve in question has to do with fuel flow. Is it mounted on the panel under the rear seat?? Being that the boat probably did not come with the diesel engines they may have bypassed that valve. Check on the back side of where it is mounted and see if there are any hoses attached. Any pictures of what you are describing would be a great help |
wow! only 2 exhaust pipes? instead of 4! What is the top speed with twin 370 hp? 50 mph???
|
Top speed is app. 47Knots - 54.087Mph
I'm looking forward in getting more out of it. |
Hey,
I'm back with new portion of photos and questions with info. About the valve I was asking about, it's located before and after San.Tank. I'm posting a picture of the valve. The question was, what for is he "Flow" on the valve. http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/535...1393ne8.th.jpg The boat is from Miami, and was never treated in any way (the exterior and interior appearance wasn't very nice looking, both were rather yellow than white, no glossiness). Swedish company "Mr CAP" made a special treatment on the boat based on "FormulaU" Yacht Protection Program. I was amazed with the result, the boat was like "resurrected", it became white, the glossiness was back & leather was once again white. http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/218...1424zg1.th.jpg http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/17/cimg1416fh9.th.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/5...1791ip6.th.jpg |

That being said, I put dual cans on my PSD truck so I could blow smoke in both windows of the Duramasses I pass. :D |

Good luck with it. That valve system has something to do with how you can pump your waste overboard. 45Sonic also known as Bill will be able to tell you more about it. He knows as much or more about Sonics than the factory does. |

Sydwayz is right, it appears to be linked to the head system for either holding tank storage or overboard discharge. Now as to how it works, well that may be trial and error. Might just have to try it with just water in the system to see what happens with the valve in different positions to get the process that YOU want.
|
It might be a process no one wants!!
|
I remember this boat. The seller took a while to move it. Must be the only 42 with twin Yanmars down there. What sort of condition is it in? Any stress cracks or moisture in it?
|
Hey guys,
I'm sorry I was away for a while. Wow so many comments. Thank you for your responses! :D Yes it's the only 42SS up here. I've finally solved the valve issue. More questions & pictures coming up. |
As I promised another portion of pictures with questions. :D
a) Console buttons. Originally there are white buttons (as on the picture). I've found one manufacture, but they only make those black ones. Does anybody know the manufacture for the white buttons? http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/493...3187ns4.th.jpg b) I think something is missing It's located under the fridge, you open the door and there are two big bolts (shown on the photo). Does anybody know, what could of being there? http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/1...3191fe5.th.jpg c) In the bow part of the boat there is a big sofa/bed, if you lift it up there is a hose. I was asking a lot of people what is it for. Even the factory doesn't know the answer. Maybe somebody can help me? http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/120...3189pt6.th.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/374...3188hp0.th.jpg Thank you all in advance! |

A) http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=183310
B) Prop holders C) Two questions: Where does the hose go? And on the port side of the bow about the same area is there an outlet (drain opening) |

And on the port side of the bow about the same area is there an outlet (drain opening) About the hose ( Question "c") 1)The hose goes down into floor, we didn't have any chance to open it up. But we've checked all the system of hoses, and we didn't find the place this hose goes to. 2) As I remember there is no outlet (drain opening) |
One or two possible answers. 1) There are two (actually three if you don't have A/C) storage compartments under the V-berth, it may be a drain for those compartments to the bilge (some of them liked to fill with water). 2) It may have been left there for an A/C install that was not done.

Put an air hose into the end of it, and see if you can find where air might be getting expelled. Sonic used to lay up drain lines in the hull with the stringers that went from the bow to the bilge, and this could be one of them. If it is, there will be little opening or perhaps 1-2 inches of the same hose at the bottom of the forward bulkhead in the engine compartment. You will more than likely see your air coming out from this area.

Hey guys,
Soon it's time to put the boat in water. This weekend we have in plan to paint the bottom of the boat. I have a question regarding the "water line". There is no specification on water line measurements. The only thing is that I see the dirty line on the body, which logically should be the water line. Could you help me with that? :) |
Best way if you really have to paint the bottom is put the boat in the water and either wait for a scum line to appear or mark the water line with a grease pencil.

We came up with several questions, during this weekend ( As always =) )
1. What would you suggest for sanding. Which machines are the best : orbital, vibrating ones, or some else? 2. As you see we have the boat on a trailer, now we have a problem to do the bottom. Would anybody have any suggestions how to do it? Hydraulics, crane, how? Thank you all in advance! P.S. see pictures in the post below |
Hey guys.
It's been time, I was last here. :0) Anybody familiar with AccuLift? I have disassembled the Acculift engines from the seats, and I need some spare parts. Anybody knows any supplier for such parts?? Thank you all in advance! |
