28ss vs. 31ss

Any of you guys have a 28ss?

I'm looking for the "real" differences in the boats. 2.5 feet and 200 lbs. I know the cabin v-berth is the same, but you lose the storage locker where the fridge goes and a piece of the lounge. I hear the cockpit is the same. I have never been on the 28, just the 26 and 31.

Power-wise, what the better motor setup twin 350 mags or 7.4s?

Hey Shooter,

About 3 yrs. ago I looked at a 28 with a single 502. The boat is definately a true Sonic the way it handles the water. Single power is NOT the way to go. Too much boat. As for twins, depending on the weight diff. between big and small blocks, a hopped up pair of 350's might be nice and probably do mid 60's or so. My 31 is all around awsome! With the stock 454's @ 365hp it did 67 mph on gps. Are you looking at one of each, or at the 28? Which ever one you are looking at if it is good condition you can't go wrong. It will make the trip up to the city alot more enjoyable.:D

Yeah,

that's pretty much it. I do way to much Bay and Ocean going. I go owt to the Barneget and NYC all the time. I love the Baja, and it rules in the two rivers and when it's calm. But, I would like a rougher runner, overnite more, and the wife/kids want more of a cabin. I don't think the 7.4 mpis will move the 31ss very well and thye are somewhat limited to mods vs. a magnum motor.

Shooter my 1994 31ss ran 64mph on GPS REPOWER TO 450 HP. NOW IT RUNS 74.....GO WITH THE 31 AND THE BIG BLOCKS....IF THEY ARE THE CARORATED ENGINES UPGRADES ARE A SNAP....450-500 HP EASY. MY.02

If you were to put the boats side by side I think you would find the 31 far more roomy, its also a much better riding boat. Nothing within 10' of its size will match it in 6'+ seas. If you are seriously considering the 28, I would definately recommend buying the 26. When compared side by side the 26 really has about the same room. The money saved would let you get a 500efi in the 26, would run about 74mph. If it were my money it would be the 31 all the way, its the best all around. Not that I'm prejudiced at all.

I agree,

I think my sights are on a 31ss with 454's maggies given I'm looking in the 95-97 year range. I can then slap a couple of blowers on them and crank... I have to break 70... (to start)

BTW - did I mention I have a Baja for sale?
