Magazine

I usually stop by West Marine at least once a month for boat stuff. When I see a new Hot Boat, I pick one up and enjoy reading through it.

Now I see that they are carrying more performance boat mags.

I picked up my hot boat, then got the new performance boat.com mags. (Came with a neat CD by the way)

So last night Im reading through both of them, and notice no Sonics....

Whats the Deal??? Is there a reason sonics are not covered.

Is there a reason Sonic doesnt run any full page adds???

37SR 07-18-2008 01:43 PM

Right there with ya. I would love to see a review on a 31SS b/c that is the boat we are considering for our next purchase. Does anyone know if there has ever been a review on this ride???

GO4BROKE 07-18-2008 07:36 PM

There have been, check the hot boat and powerboat magazine website archives. They used to be on the sonic site, but I can't find them anymore.

45SS 07-19-2008 07:25 AM

I have one. They tested it against a 29 Fountian,31 mystic cig, 29 formula. They overall liked the Sonic the best. Ill' see if I can find and let you know the issue.

37SR 07-20-2008 09:48 PM

GO4BROKE - I looked all over the web and can't seem to find anything, most of the archives only go back 2 years or so.

45SS - Thanks, I would really appreciate it.

For those of you who have had one, is this an easy boat to overnight on once in a while if need be with two small ones? I like the slide cushion to fill in between the the salon benches and possibly put the kiddos in the v-berth.

GO4BROKE 07-21-2008 09:38 PM

Yes 4 can stay overnight on it. I've done it. You won't find a 30' boat with more room. I used to spend every weekend, friday through sunday, on my 31ss.

What he said, I bought mine this year and the ride and cabin room is great.

Here's the article 45ss is talking about. The article is 10 pages.

45SS 07-23-2008 05:05 AM

Thanks for chiming in Jim. 37SR, Jim bought my old old 31SS. Like 45 Sonic said you can't go wrong. Their is an other article in March 2002 Powerboat ( starts on page 62 ). they loved it.

37SR 07-23-2008 01:14 PM

Thanks guys for all the information :drink:. We are just starting to look around and get ideas. We have ridden in a 32' AT that had the 6 pack racing bolsters and no cabin. Nice ride and good length for pulling behind the truck since I have no reasonable lakes within 2 hours of the house. Had several powerboats (Fountains, Bajas, and 1 AT) traded in when I was with the SeaRay dealer on GLOC for 6 years. The power bug bit back then but have had the Sundancer ever since. Now the boat is almost 8 hours away on GLOC, too far of a drive and we want to take the kids a lot more than several times a year now. Probably nothing before year end but we are trying to have something in the toy stable before next summer!!! The 31SS has just caught our eye. Looking at mid 90's, 29'-35', Sonic, Formula (wife likes b/c of windshield), Donzi, AT & Cigs. It's just going to have to be the one that trips the trigger with the right price at the right time. Thanks again.
Rob

Just make sure you get one with a/c and a fridge. Being that far south you will need it.

Rob

The Sonic windscreen deflects better than a Formula windshield.....IMO.

What is it that everyone says?? "It's not the heat, it's the humidity". Yeah, whatever, remind me of that when I'm in Arizona next week and it's 110:eek:. I will admit, the 100 degree days with 90% humidity we get in south Arkansas can get a little uncomfortablebut I still prefer that too 65 or colder. With the wife in on decision making and going from a 37' SR Dancer to a performance boat is going to require the neccessities to let this happen. A/C, fridge, and microwave are the 3 requirements she will probably have along with a flat screen tv and dvd player for the midgets. :ernaehrung004:

Thanks for putting that up! The 1st two pages work, but the 3rd page was saying corrupted file and wouldn't open. Nice article. I will call Hotboat and see if there's any chance to get a back copy of the mag.

Try it again. I was able to read it OK.

I used this as the performance spec for my 2006 31ss.
I put this in the purchase agreement with sonic.

I took two years to find a replacement for my 28SS Sonic.
The 31SS was certainly a good choice. I just finished a trip
from Melbourne Beach, Fl to DC on the AICW. The boat ran
great. I am probably one of the few to make this 1150 mile
trip in a performance boat. I think you would have to go
to a 38 ft or greater to match the performance of the 31SS.
It is a dry boat in all but the most complex seas.

Good luck on your search.

I will be boating on the Potomac next Thursday and Friday
(hopefully).

37SR 07-25-2008 12:34 PM

Myturn - thanks, it worked today. I also called Hotboat and they still had a back issue available. They sent it out in the mail yesterday! Very interesting trip, sounds like a blast! I always like boating on the ICW. Plan to do the big circle one of these days down the road. Probably going to be once the kids are out of school, but they are 4 and 1, so we got a while to plan.

Honestly, this is not a line. I have a friend with a 382....great boat, don't get me wrong. But the wind comes straight off the windshield onto your face. I had to duck down below the top of the windshield. The Sonic windscreen deflects wind much better if that is a factor. I wouldn't want you to get something you were not happy with. Good luck.:p

Thanks Patti. The 32 AT we rode in did not have any type of windscreen and while she didn't mind it for the weekend, she wasn't sure that she wanted to do that all the time. Formulas were fairly popular on Grand and we used to run a 353 that we had at the marina forever, I know what you mean by the wind coming straight over the w/s. Once we get closer, we are going to probably have to fly somewhere (not many in our area) and take a ride in one so she can get her own opinion. She seems excited by the thought of moving to a go-fast, she just wants to ride in a few more before we make the jump. Your opinion will definately help. Thanks again!

The windscreens are easy to add if you come up with an AT. You can see the one on the latest boat we just did. We actually customize the windscreen height based on the person that owns the boat; and it sends the wind right over your head. I am walking a friend through adding one to his Lavey as we speak.

That said, you can't go wrong with a Sonic 31ss. Its one of the best all around boats and I believe Sonic's number 1 seller.

37SR 07-25-2008 06:29 PM

Thanks Brian, I'll remember that. Do you use the fold up ones like on Skaters or do you put the clear plexi that runs the length of the dash? My buddy on Grand bought the Jesse James boat last year and we have ridden in it several times. Once when he had the big motors and then over the 4th this year with the 496 MAG HO's. That boat rocked with both sets of motors!!! Very nice ride.

Sydwayz 07-25-2008 10:10 PM

We put a clear strip of Lexan across the lip as the bow rolls down toward the bow. Then it gets covered with a combing pad.

37SR 07-28-2008 09:38 AM

Got the 2002 copy of the HotBoat mag in the mail on Saturday. Great review on the boat. Got the fever that much higher.:drink:
