21 Sonic

Here's my 21 Sonic...

http://picasaweb.google.com/bob.bobsanders.com/Desktop#

Does anyone have info on these boats? I can't find any for sale, and can't find info on how many were made etc.

Plum_Crazy 01-24-2009 11:06 PM

I see that you have an '86 boat. On the NADA website, there is a Sonic Marine 21' jet boat which is different than the Sonic USA boats on this forum. Whether or not these two companies were related back then, I don't know. NADA also gives the name J.R. Custom Marine.

GO4BROKE 01-25-2009 08:43 AM

The newer ones were a 220 sporster. They are kind of rare. I would like to get an open bow version.

VetteLT193 01-25-2009 08:50 AM

J.R. Custom Marine refers to Jay Ross, which of course was THE man at Sonic USA until 2003-ish. I don't know the history on how the two companies got together or if they were merged, or if the Sonic name just stuck with Jay Ross, or something else, but the designer is definitely the same.

I've seen other sites that have the two companies listed together, and of course NADA shows them separate.

Anyone have the full scoop?

Sydwayz 01-25-2009 12:24 PM

45sonic aka Bill ought to be able to shed some light on this. Wait for him to see it, or shoot him a PM.

I can't PM over here any more. Is he on one of the other sites? I don't see much Sonic activity anywhere. Is there a hot spot online for Sonic?

45sonic 01-26-2009 06:39 PM

Whatcha want to know??

GO4BROKE 01-26-2009 06:55 PM

Believe it or not, this is the hot spot.
How much are you asking for your boat? I think I saw it for sale on one of the other boards.

45sonic 01-26-2009 10:10 PM

I'm thinking of putting together either a blog or create a website for Sonic owners only so I can be reached or provide assistance when needed and allow other Sonic owners to be able to communicate.

Kind of a web based data log to keep track of existing Sonics, there whereabouts and owners. Not for any other reason than support for a product we bought and believe in.

Also would like to have a Sonic rendevous at some point

VetteLT193 01-28-2009 10:10 AM

I'd like to know more about these boats and the relation to Sonic USA.

Also: I might be able to help you with a web site, I'm a web developer.

I don't really have a price in mind, but next to nothing is what I was thinking. I really want to see it restored, it is such a hot little boat, so I was hoping it would go to a Sonic guy for a freshen up. All it needs today is an interior and a couple odds and ends for a basic update but knowing myself I wouldn't stop at that.

I'm on the fence about keeping it because I'm already neck deep in my Donzi project... (which has gone from basic to total re-do.)

45sonic 01-28-2009 10:36 AM

JR Custom Marine, American Industries, Sonic Marine, and Sonic USA refer to Jay Ross as either owner, part owner or president. Time spans are kind of hard to follow but I can try to find out more. CSI took over control in late '05 after the Richard Hewitt debacle that started in '03.

Give me a call when you get time

Keep me posted, I may need a 3rd boat.:hitfan: Don't tell the wife.

45sonic 01-28-2009 09:29 PM

3rd What's the second??

carrboy 01-28-2009 11:09 PM

He's been bidding on mine. Wait til his wife finds out. :greenchainsaw:

45SS 01-29-2009 05:47 AM

I'll call you sometime so we can chat. I really don't have a whole lot of time to burn this week, so probably next week.

GO4BROKE 01-29-2009 05:19 PM

1- sonic 386STS
2- galaxy shooting star 176
3-2 person kayak, I let the wife paddle!

I would love a little jet boat to be our "bay" boat

Carrboy- I know you will threaten but never tell!

GO4BROKE 01-29-2009 05:20 PM

Not quite your league of multiple boats Bill!

True, but I'd much rather have your maintenance.

It's yours for $1,500 if you want it... that is a total convenience price on my end. I can hook you up with an interior guy in S. Fla if you want too. He did my Donzi interior for $900.

GO4BROKE 01-31-2009 02:50 PM

That's a great deal. I would love to have it. I was thinking of hitting the miami show and picking it up on the way back. But the wife keeps bringing up minor details like building the babies room ( I haven't started) before starting another project. I'm still working on her though. At that price I don't imagine you will have it for long. What engine is in it?

It's got a 454 Big Block Chevy, totally replaced in 1997-ish so it's not a junky engine.

I can't sell it until the boat show weekend anyway, and it's not like I have it advertised. I am going to the show as well and we could work out a time if you really want. Boat happens to be at my brother's house in Key largo so it's spitting distance from the show.

We're doing a fun run in the keys - S. Miami too if you are interested. I'm running with my brother in his 22 Donzi.

What Kinda work does it need??

Does it come with the trailer for that price??

45sonic 02-01-2009 10:03 AM

I'd love to have it but I know I'd get in trouble for it.

It needs an interior, it needs a major cleaning, new battery, and it really could use a new steering / throttle cables (they work, but are a bit rough). The interior needs everything including the floor. The original floor just had carpet over glass, not the setups we are used to.

I planned on getting star board, laying it out on the floor and building the bench seat out of it, then putting in new seats. Doing clean up work and running the piss out of it. I figured I could do all the work for $1500, plus incidentals of $500 for a total of $2000.

Yes, it has a trailer. Galvanized 2 axle, it is rusting but the frame is open (not the boxed style) and structurally it's ok.

Tempting at that price if I had the room, Three cars and a 24 Pantera on zero lot line property is tough.

If its still avilable would you mind e-mail or Pm more pics and info.

I sold my Sonic 2yrs ago for a express, and that would be great for bruning around with the mothership.

GO4BROKE 03-07-2009 05:51 PM

Did anyone buy it yet? I would but getting it here would cost as much as the boat.

GO4BROKE 03-12-2009 12:16 PM

ttt

GO4BROKE 06-07-2009 06:28 PM

Vette Lt193 Did you sell the boat? Your PM box is full.

VetteLT193 06-08-2009 06:44 AM

nope, still have it. I haven't really been trying to sell it though, I have to put an ad for it somewhere before my wife kills me.

GO4BROKE 06-08-2009 07:37 PM
