I tried an old trick to get rid of the rust on my interior lights. I took some steel wool and coated it with WD-40 and polished the lights. I was able to remove all the rust from the surface of the lights. There is only a few spots where if you look closely you can see the pit. Only time will tell if the rust will come back. I am going to convert to the LED bulbs from the website listed above. The only problem is I pulled out a bulb and ran the number on the base in the conversion database and have no matches. On the side of my bulb it says 12VY3CP.......I will pull out another bulb and see what its says but it looks like a standard bulb.

Mine were 105 bulbs, also not on the list. They have the same base as an 1156, but the diameter of the 1156 bulb is too large for the fixture. You need the bulbs in the pic I posted, thats what 45SS put in his, so we know they fit. I'm going to try the wd-40 trick.

Cool, I will be placing an order shortly, looks like they cost about 5-6 bucks a bulb. Not bad at all.

If you guys have acess to a bead blaster you can disassemble the light and bead blast it, and paint to the color you want. I did this for the light above my console in the cabin, so it would blend in with the fiberglass.

Got mine today. Great service. Already installed them. They work well and I don't have to worry about the kids getting burned. I got 1/2 white, 1/2 red bulbs, so I can switch between colors. The red looks cool and won't attract bugs ( a big deal with 3 females aboard )

Chris did you go with the 15 element leds.

I did get the 15's. They sit so deep in the socket though I don't think the 6 radial LED's make any difference. You could probably get the 9's and have the same amount of light. I will look closer tomorrow and let you know.

I ordered the 15 also, also before I forget to mention, if you still plan on using the steel wool trick, make sure you use the really fine stuff, otherwise Im afraid your lights would get scratched.

I just got my LED's installed today. I also opted for the 15 led bulbs but I have to agree with you. The bulb sits VERY deep and does not look like I am able to utilize all the LEDs. They look great, and for the 100 bucks I spent and some elbow grease, it was a well worth it project. I have to do the step light, and engine hatch lights yet. Thanks for the advice on the bulbs. I will not worry about draining the battery when we stay out on the boat overnight!
