42 sonic with twin HP500's
I have a question to all you Sonic owners about this boat:
http://www.teamshogren.com/pre-owned...-42-sonic.html It is also in the OSO classifieds section. Will this boat be a dog? It seems like a big boat for twin HP500's. Aren't there some 42 sonic's with tripples? How much benefit from the extension boxes? Just curious. I'm looking to upgrade this winter and kinda liked this unit, just don't want to go from one dog to another... |
Not sure about the boxes but I would think they would help. The most mine would do was 70 - 72 on radar on fresh 500's (carbed). Not bad for a big comfy boat. Depends what you are looking for. I didn't overnight and wanted more speed so I sold mine.
|
Do you think 80k is a decent price for a '95?
|
I though that boat had sold, it was on here once before I believe. Those boats are 70- 72 on a good day. You could always go with a top end kit for more power. Sonic uses Imco steering so the Imco boxes would be the way to go. I know of one other( a 45 ) with boxes. He said that Sonic used low water thru hull pick-ups, so you may have to drill holes in the boat down low for the pick-ups. Word is they are usally good for 2-3 MPH.
|
I wouldn't be putting the boxes on, it already has them. I was mainly wondering if it did any good or not.
How bout the price? |

The NADA value for ave. retail is about $68K for this boat. However, it looks extemely clean. I think you should be able to get it for $70K easy. Then, bump those 500's to 540's! |

I couldn't get 70k for my '98 386 w/trip 500hp's. It was way nicer than that 42. IMHO that makes that 42 worth 50-55k.
|
Price is high.
I have a 42 with 540's 2hrs old new trailer for 70k or maybe less And Yes they did make a few triple engine 42's and 38's |

Thats a pretty nice lookin unit also.
Hey you guys may consider this sacrilege but can you take the radar arch off? I've seen some with it and some without, and I prefer without. I'm just wondering if that is a option from the factory and if it has it you are stuck with it. |
Try it with it first. I wish they would have left mine on. It makes it real easy to tie into a top if you choose to install one. Once you get out and find out how much room you have overnighting may become a regular. They can be removed, you will have 5 holes. One where the wiring harness goes and 4 bolt holes. I had my holes taken care of this summer. I wish, I still had the arch.

Seems high. I sold my fresh water 94 42 last year for 62,000.

nice price drop
http://www.teamshogren.com/pre-owned...-42-sonic.html opinions on the colors? They seem feminin to me, anyone? With the price cut it makes it a little more tolerable |
Yes that is starting to look pretty tasty. Colors date it a bit, but not terrible. Would not take a great deal to change it....

A little custom vinyl goes a long way.

anyone seen this personally?
|
I have, only from a walk around. Its pretty clean for its age.
|
Well, spoke with Shogren again this weekend and just as there price dropped so did the value of my trade in. Funny how they want to make up profits of the Sonic through sale of mine--I'm not an accountant but..............
|
took a deposit on my Velocity this week and should close the deal next week--time for serious shopping
|
deal pending on the Shogrens 42 but it's not me.....any insight?
|
Its not on the site anymore, must have sold.
I went over to Shogren last weekend. All the salesmen were in Miami so we just helped ourselves. I went on it, its not very impressive. The hull seems to be in good condition. The vinly in the cockpit is a little rough. The cabin was in pretty good shape. I really like the cabins in the Sonic's. My wife could stand straight up, I was close. For the money I would say its a good buy, but for someone looking to upgrade it probably wouldn't impress you too much over what you had. I wouldn't trade up from mine for it. |

Guess I'm not too disappointed then, even though Shogrens blew me off :angry-smiley-038: |
