Prop Help on a 28 SS
Well I have a bout of cabin fever looking out my window with several feet of snow on the ground. I have a few questions regarding my props. I have a 99 28ss with twin MPI small blocks. I bought the boat 11 months ago and it came with 23 Mirage Plus props. One has the vent plugs, the other does not. Does this make a difference? I have a regular, no GPS speedo which I know is not greatly accurate. My second questions is my RPMS seem low, 4600 WOT on calm water no chop. Speedo said 61-62. I put plugs and wires in last summer and both motors run really nice. I also have the sonic porpoise which i can tab most of it out but it seems to labor the motors the more tab I run. I have been thinking about having some prop work done and I am curious if I am running the right props, and if so would labbing/cupping help mid-range driveablity/Porpoise. Anybody run a 28 ss and if so what worked for you? Thanks in advance.

I assume 350's with Bravo 1 drives??
First off, lose the Mirage props. Second , find a set of Bravo1 4 blades most probably 22's. The 28 is known to porpoise, some more than others. Tab work keeps it more stable. |
I haven't been to this place in a couple of years, so whether they are still in buisiness or even have the correct prop sets, I don't know. However, they did rent props. I went through 3 different levels of power on my old Baja single and rented there several times.

Brett a Bblades is probably the way to go with the 350s I would look at the revolutions probably 22

I should have mentioned I am running Bravo 1's. What are most of the 31 sonics and other 28 Sonics running, 3 or four blade props?
|
3 blade is slightly faster top end, 4 blade is WAY more stable.

I like the sound of that!. I will start dong some homework. To me loosing a few up top is not a big deal, I would much rather have a more stable ride especially with my young son as my co pilot.

How much? I wouldn't mind having my spare set done.

I heard back from BBlades. I explained my current situation and got the following.
"Labbing you props with the correct recipe will create better bow carrying capacity as well as raise the RPM's and speed. This is the route I would go since you fall into that specific category. This recipe will work if the props are in stock configuration or if we can manipulate the current configuration. This shouldn't be a problem. Since you own these propellers and they can work quite well, it is the easiest and least expensive route." He also advised on the test prop program which also sounds like a neat deal. I will have to follow up with him regarding price. |
