386 Black Jack edition???

Saw an ad for a 1998 386 Black Jack edition today (surfing yachtworld when I should have been working :) ). The boat has triple SC525's (blown) and is said to be only 1 of 6 made. Anyone know anything about this model? I had thought that only the 42's were built with triples.

And what's up with only 6 made; the cynical little voice in my head says maybe they only built 6 because it didn't work all that well...

Looks like a gorgeous boat, though! IMHO, Sonic is about the only manufacturer that can make a radar arch look right on their boats.

Here's the link: http://yachtworld.com/listing/yw_lis...USD&units=Feet

Well, as always, I'm behind the curve - after I posted the msg above, I swung by Sonic's website and saw that the 386 is indeed built with both twin and triple power. Which in turn leads me to believe that the "Black Jack" edition was probably some special graphics and whatnot, maybe some (even more!) upscale appointments in the cabin, not some attempt to stuff trips in a twin hull.

Sorry if I jumped to conclusions - Sonic is a sweet boat. We don't see too many up here in Michigan, but I'll be looking for them when we're in the market for a new boat.

There are some more pics of the boat on traderonline.com. It's been for sale for quite a while. It seems like a great price for a loaded out Sonic. I don't think i would want trips though.

Hey that's just more levers to play with, right? Seriously, that boat is out of my league, though we may be shopping for 31 or maybe a 35 in a year or two. New baby = no new boat for a while...

Hey Mike, they are nice boats, I partially own a 2000 Sonic 42ss with twinn 500 efi's , its been flawless, very nice boat, 84 hours does 72 mph, a little slow but no steps. Excellent rough water boat. You can't beat the interior cabin room. I also partially own a 2000 Top gun as well as a 2002 Active Thunder 37 AVH. You are right on the arch, they are the only ones that can do it and make it look right, I had one sketched on my Thunder in the building stages and it looked like chit, and they looked at me funny for asking, they were right, it didnt look good on the Thunder. Good luck to ya, hope you get it:D

Mike,

I'm in the same position. The wife is due in 5 weeks. I'm lucky to be able to keep what I have let alone upgrading. When you go to look for the Sonic, get in touch with Dano here on the board. He sold me my Fountain and won't BS you.

Hey Tim, congrats - nothing better than a little one. Is this your first?

We decided to sell the boat, and now we're glad we did. After a lot of thought, my wife decided to leave her job and become a full time mom (I had been hoping she would, but she really enjoyed her work...). If we still had the boat, this would not have been an option.

So, we go without for a year or two, then get a used boat. Small price to pay, as I see it. Plus, I'm not sure we'd actually use the boat that much with an infant daughter. Be a different story when she's 2 or 3 years old.

Good luck!

Mike

Yes, this is the first. They tell us it's going to be a daughter too. After three baby showers of pink, pink, pink I sure hope they're right.:D The wife is taking a few months off, but is planning on returning to work full time. She is the bread winner so I need her income foe my toys. You're right though. I don't see too much boating in my near future.

29Fever is right on the mark about Dano. We were seriously looking at a 386 last fall and he was excellent to work with. He will do everything possible to get you the boat you want at a fair price. If you go to his website and go to the new inventory page, that is Tbikini and myself with Brandon and Dan in that 386.

By the way, babies love boats. All they do is sleep while on board. We took both our girls out on the boat when they were only 3 months old. We even stayed overninght with'em. Don't let the fact that you have a young one stop you from enjoying your passion. They will like what you like. If you like boating, get'em boating early in their life. It will get in their blood.

Just my .02:D
