386 At Shogrens
Great looking 386 at Shogrens. anybody know the history of the Boat. Has B-Max drives and Hood scoops so I'm thinking it had big power at one time.
How much power do you think it would take to get a 386 to 85-90MPH? |
If this helps. I have heard that a 42 with 700's will go 92. There was a 386 on the Potomac here with 900's in it. It's speeds were said to be 104 to 107, 45 Sonic has driven the 386.

Don't recognize this boat.
May or may not have had bigger power, just may have the Bmax's put on just in case or depending on the condtions it was run in 386 with 900's = 106 mph plus or minus a few depending on water and load. |
Nice boat.

No hyd steering?????
|
Sonic (Jay Ross) would not sell me a 31 without hydraulic steering ,because the boat would go over 70MPH. That was their rule on any boat. This boat was built when Richard Hewitt was the owner of Sonic. I can assure this boat should run over 70. I have driven 42's that ran over 70 with 500 carb motors. That was a good catch, I did not notice that. Fountain40icbm is right ITS requires no hydraulic rams.

Its the boat that Hot boat mag did the test on years ago I believe. If so if sat outside rotting away in FL for year with and wothout a cover. Half the time with no motors or drives, then it had drives, then it had motors, ect.......you get the picture.

I'm not crazy about the black dash and panels.
Anyone know what the 4 thru hull fittings between the exhausts are? http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...es/35948_2.jpg |

I think the boat is nice but agree the dash is hideous. I have never seen a sonic with scoops on the engine hatch either. Not sure why it needed those or if it's just for looks. I really like the different interior color scheme used on this. Has a little more luxury than performance feel. It does say that it is a repo boat so I wonder if it is the boat that sat and rotted for years?
|
It is a boat Kirk with Elite Marine and I brought back to life. The boat is not rotted (you guys kill me LOL) and is in mint condition. It has 50 hours on it. The engines have ZERO hours on fresh 500EFI's. This paint is flawless and shines like it just came out of the paint booth. The interior is mint. The dash is really sharp in person. The low resolution pictures do not do it justice. The boat is a repo that did not have power. All the electronics were missing and now replaced with new. The fittings on the transom were for air hose to switchable Livorsi mufflers. It now has CMI headers and tails (wet). The BMax drives are fresh with ITS transom assemblies with internal steering very similar to a Number Six Drive. Very expensive and very strong. This was a very, very expensive boat when new and is now a true bargain. Like buying a brand new boat for 1/3 the price. Give Scott Shogren a call.

The black gauges tie in real nice with all the black carbon fiber panels everywhere in the boat. The dash, the counter tops, the five light bars and the main panel are all real carbon fiber! $$$$$$$ It even has lighted acrylic handles.
The hull bottom looks new and the $40,000 paint job is flawless. http://i53.tinypic.com/2agrmuw.jpg http://i53.tinypic.com/2j2ylxc.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/dvjxcg.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/2nsyolk.jpg |
Do the gauges have a shield of some sort over them?
|
All Sonics have a plexiglass cover over the dash. Nice touch to keep everything out of the elements.
|
Thanks for clarifying for us. The engines have 0 hours, have you guys had the boat in the water at all? Short run on Lake MI?

I should have brought candy with as it was a parade float with all the photos and questions about the boat. |
Thanks for the info and pics Brad. What did it run with the 500's ? Those bmaxes should be a little slower than b1's. Pretty bullet proof set up I imagine. Who freshened the engines?

Looks like the boat that was sitting at extreme marine to me. If thats the case Brad and Kirk did a killer job on the resto
|
Extreme Marine? Elite Marine maybe...
I do beleive this is the 386 that Kirk and Brad did... nice job... |

So what will it run?

Boat is very clean and ready for new home.
I imagine its a 70 MPH boat. Cruising in style with AC, (2) sinks, full head, shower, transom shower, the works!!! Bmax is back in business with new ownership and these drives are stout to say the least. I doubt youd have a problem behind 500's or 500's with Whipples!! Email Shogren for more info. Open to offers and trades just like the ad says!! |
