New Tow Rig
I sold my '01 Suburban 2500 a few weeks ago and took advantage of the 0% financing Chevy had running on this '11 Silverado 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison drivetrain.
A friend of the family owns a dealership in eastern Michigan and gave me a far better deal than I could get in Minnesota. The downside was that I had to drive it home 750 miles. I got home last night after driving through freezing rain during the last 2.5 hours. The truck handled the slippery conditions with ease. Now, it's time to start customizing. The first order of business is to install some side-steps. This thing is tall! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...0HD/2500HD.jpg |
Very Nice! Congratulations!
|
the dura-max allison combo is great .
good luck and have fun mike |
Congrats! It looks great. That front bumper is roughly the size of a Honda Civic; mounted sydwayz.
|
Nice rig!!, I 'd pop those pizza cutter tires off before doing anything else :)
|
Custom wheels and bigger tires are definitely on the list, but not first. Steps are first and a bed cover second. I want to wait until someone has an aftermarket computer available that can adjust the tire size. The ECM for 2011 is all new, so there's nothing out there, yet. It sounds like I can get 33's on it with just a front leveling kit.

Nice truck too. :drink: |
Nice truck, congrats!
I agree on the tires and wheels but from a functionality standpoint, you're probably better off leaving those tires on. If nothing else, they will serve as a great set of winter tires... |
Congratulations! You will really appreciate it this spring with the sonic in tow. :drink:

Congrats!!!
I would have to agree with adding larger tires and the steps. I put 285 BF Goodrich TA's on my '06 and went to http://www.truckaddons.com for the bed cover, steps, tail gate lock and bug guard. With the tires and side steps it fills the gaps in nicely and made big difference in appearance. During last years two big snow storms I was able to go just about anywhere I wanted and had no problems. It also tows the Sonic really nice as well. I also went with the Edge controller but have a had some problems with it so I would certainly do your homework before you decide. |
I've been busy ordering parts already. I have N-fab steps, Bushwacker pocket-style fender flares, a Pro Comp front-end leveling kit, and a hood protector on the way. I also ordered rear fenderwell liners and chrome door handles through the Chevy dealership.
For wheels, Chevy switched to a new 8X180 bolt pattern this year and there are only a few brands of wheels available. I got my heart set on the Pro Comp 6031, but they're on back order for at least two months. http://www.procompusa.com/images/pro...PXA/101924.png |
Thats awesome, Congrats!!! I went from a 01 2500 burb to a Duramax and love it! I have a 6" lift on mine with 20's and 35's still pulls great! I run the Edge on mine but havent had a problem yet, PPE makes a great tuner for the Duramax. Nice wheel choice!

I've been steadily working on my new truck and accumulating parts. The project is finally coming together this weekend.
I just mounted these new wheels today. They're 20X9" BMF S.O.T.A. wheels with 33X12.5" Toyo M/T's. I have to massage the rear of the fenderwell tomorrow as they just touch at full lock. The front was raised 2" with a leveling kit. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...500HD/bmf1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...500HD/bmf2.jpg Still to come are fender flares and steps... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...0HD/flares.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...00HD/steps.jpg Soon it will be worthy to pull the Sonic! :drink: |
Looks great

what a difference wheels and tires make. Looks sweet.
|
Looks GREAT!
|
Looks great man, The Toyo are great tires I run them on mine just make sure to rotate them every 3k miles to get optimum life out of them! Also check dieselplace.com for info on all D-max's.

The makeover is complete. Now, I can turn my attention back to the boat.

Good job and yes, now it looks worthy of pulling the Sonic. :drink:

Plum, when you get a chance, can you post a pic of the front and rear of the truck. I would like to see how the wheels/tires look from front and back. :)

Nice :)
Thanks |
Nice looking rig. You must have to clean it daily to keep all the salt and slush off of it from all the snow.

Towed the boat today for the first time with the new truck. All I can say is, WOW! I actually have to watch it on take-off or it will break the tires loose. I can enter the freeway at full speed with ease and the truck can accelerate up hills without downshifting. The stability is awesome compared to my old Suburban 2500. Now, if the river will just go down another 1/2 foot, I can go boating.
