35' Sonic towing weight.....
Going to be ordering a new pick up for work...... I want to make sure the new truck is able to tow my 35' Sonic..... Does anyone know what the weight of a 35' Sonic with trailer, fuel, gear, etc, etc....weighs ? When I walk into the dealer should I be looking at 12,000lb capacity or 13,000 or what ?

Just get a 3500 series truck and you will be fine.

I just got a 2011 Silverado 2500HD with the Duramax. The stock power is amazing. It's rated to tow 13,000lbs on the hitch and over 16,000lbs with a 5th wheel. That should work for you.
My 31SS weighs exactly 10,000lbs on an aluminum trailer at the scale. I can't imagine a 35 would be more than 12,000lbs. |
Thanks Plum.......

I think the new Ford F250 with the 6.7 liter is even high than the chevy's for tow capacity.

The Ford had so many issues with their last two diesel generations, they redesigned the whole thing again. I don't know that I'd want to have a first year engine. The Duramax/Allison package is well-proven.
Read this and decide which engine/trans combo is best... http://blogs.dieselpowermag.com/6729...oke/index.html |
I have an 11 f250. It is a whole different truck than the 2 earlier. It might look the same but it is not. We had on 08 with the 6.4 and it was a fuel guzzler. 8 mpg pulling the boat and 12 to 14 driving around town. Bought the 11 in July and got 14 mpg pulling the boat right off the bat. It is getting 18 to 20 around town. So far we love it. No problems. I was leary too on how it would perform and so far so good. Ur right plum the duramax/allison is a great package also.

Mine pulls my 31 just fine. You definitely will have plenty of power. Go to fords website on towing. Different set ups have different limits. I think it goes from 12,000 to 16,000 depending on what rear end is in the truck. My 2 cents I think you will do just fine. Now if you had a 42 that might be a different story. If you don't think a 250 will do look at a 350 in a single rear wheel.
