Getting the 31 vinyl wrapped...

4 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a 1999 SONIC 31SS and have decided to have it vinyl wrapped. Here's a before picture:

Here's the mock-up design for the new vinyl wrap:

Of course, I have to get the dash panels done to match...

I'm sure you all may recognize the graphics. I really liked this boat, so it was my starting point for design:

looks very nice

GO4BROKE 02-17-2011 07:59 PM

Looks good. Thats BN's old boat.

FuelinAround 02-17-2011 08:39 PM

I would be very interested to know your estimated price. I have gotten a few quotes on mine as well

26sonic 02-18-2011 04:29 AM

I bought the boat from bn in 2006 , those graphics really make the boat stand out and i always get a lot of nice complements on it !!

Plum_Crazy 02-18-2011 11:10 AM

Very cool. But, I would consider doing the name in separate pieces that can be removed if/when you go to sell the boat.

LEEthal75 02-18-2011 11:23 AM

Yes, I plan on doing the name text on top of the wrap for just that reason. :-)

Total cost for design, material, and install is right at $3500. I'm having skinzwraps.com do it for me. Their closest location to me is in Dallas, TX.

Perlmudder 02-18-2011 11:37 AM

looks a 1000x times better!!!

Holy $HIT!!! That is like half the cost that Signzoo quoted me. I heard signzoo was the best so I started talking to them but I am not sure what it so much better about them. For that cost I would probably look at wrapping mine when I redo the interior this winter. Have you checked up on their materials etc to make sure they use grade A stuff? Whats their website?

Skinzwraps.com

They're highly recommended and have done lots of boats. I've been talking to Mark over in the Dallas office.

Were the original graphics vinyl as well, and being removed, or were they paint/gel and just being covered over?

Jim Diesel 02-20-2011 07:11 PM

Looks good! :drink:

Badshaw 02-21-2011 07:40 PM

The original graphics are painted in. You can barely feel a small ridge when you run your hand across the fiberglass over the current stripes. I'm told that you will hardly notice it under the vinyl.

I'm taking in tomorrow for the wrap and will upload pics on Friday when I get it back home.

26sonic 02-27-2011 07:29 PM

my question is how durable is the vinyl? if you bump the dock is it going to peel or tear ? vs paint?

That is unbeleivable.....I love the pics....I have always wondered if I wrap mine if it will make the walkway look funny having the top wrapped and the sides then a big white walkway. Are you wrapping the top at all?

Thanks. Yes, the center raised section of the bow will be done as well. The very left of this picture shows the graphics going on the bow. It will have cut outs for the hatches.

Looks like you could have gone an easier route http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o38278-en.html

It will peel or tear, if you hit it just right!

Not sure if you looked at mine when you were down here, but it looks fine.

Yeah, I figured that was probably a good idea to go ahead and get them to be on the safe side.

How long ago did you wrap yours? How's it holding up? Any other care, maintenance, and advice is greatly appreciated.

I pick it up tomorrow afternoon. I'll post some close-ups and various angles when I get home on Friday.

That looks awesome!!!!!! Congrats... Bn was always one of my favorite 31ss. I had a baja with vinyl years back and bumped into a dock and tore the vinyl about the size of a dime. Went home used a heat gun and some smoothing out by finger and fixed it. Was not the same as new but only i could tell. And I know the product has changed for even the better since then. 7 yrs ago. Good luck.

26sonic 03-02-2011 06:34 PM

that looks incredable !!! i have the paint job from sonic on my 2002 31 sonic that looks similar.

GO4BROKE 03-02-2011 07:55 PM

Nice. Thats a lot of bang for the buck.

Just watch hitting sharp edges like the dock!!! I have had mine on since 09 and so far so good, I use Mother's Showtime Gold detail spray and it works very well. Looks great man, congrats! :drink:

I had mine wrapped 2 yrs ago and couldnt be any happier. I paid $1350 for the vinyl including design fees and another $650 to have it installed locally--Total of $2000. My boat is shorter though at 26 feet.
I went thru Chris at Raceline up in Canada. Materials and design were outstanding.

jmbighead 04-28-2011 09:42 PM

what is that wrap going to cost you?

Chuck 04-29-2011 08:09 PM

Looks great. Really updated the boat at a very reasonable cost.

boatnt 04-29-2011 08:26 PM

looks great!!

You might want to think about replacing the bow roller to the "cow catcher style" like what Myco uses...had a friend wrap his boat and that bow roller tore the vinyl wrap up

hp500efi 04-30-2011 03:44 AM

Outstanding!!
