Galley Power Switch
 
Just last week I can no longer turn on my water pump and frig. When I turn on the Galley Power Switch on the dash it pops after about 5 seconds. I took the wires off the back of the Galley Power Switch and put them on the Blower Switch hoping it was a bad breaker, no luck, the blower switch then popped.

I took the downstairs panel off and unhooked the the wires to the water pump, still popped, unhooked the wires to the frig, still popped. I turned both the frig and water pump switches on downstairs then went up top and turned the Galley Power Switch on, the light for the frig switch came on and you could hear the frig kick on, the light on the water pump switch didn't come on and the water pump didn't kick on either.

Could it be a bad water pump, but why with the wires disconnected to the switch below would the main breaker still pop. I'm confused with this one and don't know where to look anymore.

Anyone have a similar issue before?

I have, but not with these components or on a Sonic.

Sounds like something is shorting to ground, and tripping the switch.

The easiest way to find a short to ground is to un hook the positive wires on all batteries in the boat. Power one end of a test light on the Positive side of a battery. Take the other end of the test light and touch it to all power wires leading to the swtiches and components. Power to power does nothing to a test light, no ground. The power that lights the light is shorting to ground and that will trace you to your problem.

I had the main breaker trip on the starboard engine of my last boat, the cuplrit was the oil pressure gauge on that side was shorted to ground. Took me 8 crazys nights to find the problem!

Yeah I figured it was a short to ground somewhere, not looking forward to tracing this one out, but at lease the switches are easy to get at.

How you making out with your new purchase?

Let me just say the broker on the boat should not be in business. Just shady, and a major PIA.

I am going to try to find the real owner on my own, tell him my experience, and hopefully bypass the broker. Give me a call sometime and I will share the story
