Speed and set up?
No BS what are you running?
92 35ss 725 hp bravo x , 28 bravos stock at 5200 rpm ( banging the rev limiter) 84mph Need labbed 30s hoping for 90+ |
Sonic set up
What gear ratio are your outdrives ?
|
1.5 turning props in 84 mph, but the boat handles poorly .82 mph turning out at 5100 rpm, the boat is much better .
|
Nobody what's to say what they are running?
Same post in cigarette forum any a lot of replies, I guess Cig owners are more friendly |
31ss, 365 hp 454's, labbed and cupped 24"bravos, 69.1 all time best, 67.6 most of the time
386STS, 496HO's, labbed 26" B1's, 4900 ish rpm's, high 68mph's with full tanks. Threw an ear before I got to properly test. Crappy stock 26's about 66 @4600. Good stock 26's 67-68mph. Crappy ones headed to throttle up this winter to become my good props. |
2000 358 w/ 500 efi's 28 4 blades, saw 83 on the GPS last saturday and still had about 300 rpms left. Tanks half full, 20 gallons water, and two people on the boat.

Is there a difference in hull/weight from '00 - '03? |
Not sure... Myself and my buddy both saw it plain as day on the Garmin on saturday. We were rolling right beside my buddies 33zx donzi with 500 EFI's w/ whipples. Even he said he had to do a double take when we pulled beside him as we were running.
|
wow thats a BLAZING FAST 35 sonic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
i have amost 500 more HP and doing the same speed, my boat doesnt carry the bow very good
|
1990 30ss 2x450 hp(jacked up 454s) 73mph gps 5800 rmps
|
I'm the second owner of the boat. If I remember correctly the oringinal owner said he had some work/tuning done to the motors at 200 hours. Not sure if that was a sales pitch or actual truth. I do keep up with my 3 buddies who are all running 35 ft fountains that run in the low to mid 80's.
|
Sound like you have head and intake work done. No way your 100% stock and getting those speeds.
|
I agree.....that is fast with 500's..... I run a 2002 358 with twin 575sci's..... I see 79-80 on any given day and one time in very early spring (cold water and air) with 1/2 tank fuel, NO gear, by myself, new labbed props from BBlades, I hit 84....... There are so many variables in top speed it's crazy...... I know that my engines are very affected by ambient temperture so I see a noticable loss in speed as summer approaches and then my last few runs of the season as it gets cooler out I could see the higher speeds again. Then everytime I have a little prop work done my numbers change too. I feel as long as I am in the high 70's I am fine with that......

Here's Johnny, do you run on the south shore ? I think I've seen your boat . I'm in Massapequa .
|
The reason I started this tread with saying " no BS " is I'm trying to dial in my boat . I thought it would be faster ,so if guys with 500 hp are running mid 70's and I'm mid 80's with 725 hp I guess that just what the boat will do . But if guys are running much less power and running faster I have to keep looking into my set up.
My boat was set up light from the factory , no ref, no micro, small fuel tanks. I removed all the foam from V berth and cabin floor , removed arch , no water in tank, the interior is all new with no water in the foam light weight engine hatch, no power hatch, removed hook from bottom of hull ...... The hull looks the same as a 2000 model . So I'm not doubting anyone's statement of their speeds I'm just wondering why I'm not faster |

PAD or STEP bottom is what I meant to say
|
Kevin you missed my point . I'm not wondering why I'm not going faster than 84 mph. That's an easy one. More power, higher x dimention , 3 blade props.......
I'm wondering why my boat isn't faster than another 35 sonic with much less power? . That's why I asked for everyone's speed and set up without the BS. I was talking with a guy with a 38 fountain . Older straight bottom boat. 600 hp. He said the boat does 88 mph . Next time I saw him on the water I was wondering how that boat was doing 88mph while I was walking away from him and my boat was running 82. LOL I know the answer already, he was full of **** hahaha |
yea lots of b.s. speed numbers flying around.... I have a friend who had 3 sonics, 26 prowler 496 ho, 31 ss twin 496 ho, and 386 twin custom built 502's with blowers making neighborhood of 750hp each. He pumped tens of thousands of bucks into the boat and ended up with a top speed of what a 38 fountain would have prouced with stock merc 525's. Now the sonic looked awsome and sounded like a total moster! But he was NEVER satisfied with the speed of the boat and sold the 386 that he pumped 60-70k into, and that was only what he put into the power. I think 80+ mph on any sonic is very respectable and surely nothing to sneeze at.

02 31SS, 496hos, 26p labbed mercs, 75mph 5050rpm, normally see around 73-74, but also don't run 5000rpm for long, but 4800 is another story @ 70-71mph
Anytime we run in snot, we leave everyone behind, even wimps with bigger fancier stuff:) |

i want to run 100 mph, going to get -2 shortie drives and run e85 with more boost. i have to power to do it i just need to set the boat up differently. i ran the boat tonight 86mph still pushing the bow. i have props getting labbed now which should put me to 90. well at least a have my fingers crossed, then over the winter I will get new drives and see if that does the trick.
i think the drives are way to deep |

2003 31ss 575sci's, superchillers, modified ECM's, ported heads, full roller cams, and other "assorted" goodies :)
Running XZ's at the time, now running XR's... a tad bit slower as they take at little more HP to turn... still mid 90's. Boat is also fully loaded ammenity wise too.. a/c, fridge, microwave, tv, dvd, ect... The GPS does not lie... Water was 2' chop, fuel was almost gone, 1 passenger, wind behind us, 6000rpm (rev limiter set to 6800), 32P bravo 1's labbed, starved myself for a week to loose 10 more lbs lol... |
sonic
31 sonic with twin 850 SCi it runs a steady 79 mph. 30" prop
|
hahahaha
