Default Sonic 358

How does the sonic 358 compare to a Baja 33 outlaw, Fastech 353 or a 35 Fountain? What will one run with 500 efi's? Also. Does anyone know the history of the 2002 in the classifieds?

The 358 is a MUCH larger boat than the other 3 you listed. The cabin is the same as a 386, 6' headroom. The Baja is the lowest quality of the 4, the fountian the smallest and fastest, formula the second fastest. I would expect 74ish with 500's. Depends what your priority is, for overnighting the sonic is by far the best. The Sonic and Fountian are the only two that have the shoebox joint glassed on the inside. The other 2 use plexus. NONE of them are bad boats.

Look up vettex1 on here. He has the same exact boat as that 2002 and lives very close to it as well, good chance he knows the guy.

I wanted the 358 or 38 Sonic before I purchased my fountain, one fell through and I couldn't find another that I felt comfortable buying. Im happy with the fountain, and love the speed, but the cabin is not the greatest for us, we overnight a lot.

Like Chris stated the cabin in the Sonic is awesome, so if you are one to overnight they can't be beat. The only con to the 358 is top speed and cockpit room, but that is a stretch, its a great boat. Also the early production units 2000,01,02 had some porpoise issues with the notched transom, I believe 5 blade props pretty much fix this issue.

If you don't plan to spend much time in the cabin and are looking for top speed and handling the fountain is the choice! Check out the 38 fountain as well.

Baja 33 has the most cockpit room of any performance boat of its size. The cabin headroom and is second to only the sonic in your choices. Cons would be quality issues, and performance

The formula 353 is a middle of the road version of all of the above IMO. Not the fastest, not the slowest. A good compromise of cockpit and cabin space. Sleek lines but still semi decent cabin room. a good percentage offer a/c and vacuflush which is rare on anything other than the Sonic. Quality of the formula's interior is a step above the rest. The only con I see in formula is the styling and graphics are unappealing, but that is just my opinion.

I do know the purple 358 in the classifieds. Boat is extremely clean and very well cared for. In my opinion its priced well below what its worth. I think it would be a great buy for anyone. If you plan on staying on the boat you can't beat the cabin in the sonics. We stay on our's every weekend and there is four of us.

sp3132, if you're in the market for a 358 the purple 2002 in the classifieds is certainly worth looking at, you won't be dissapointed. The owner is a great guy and the boat has been taken very good care of.

358 and 386 are identical from the steering wheel forward. Extra length in 386 is either extended cockpit or triple engine setup.

Beware though, the 358s have been known to have some hop/porpoise issues on flat water. It's manageable, but you need a little seat time or instructions on how to set trims at different speeds. This has been discussed many times here on the Sonic forum.

They are great boats. built solid; and handle just about anything you would throw at them.

The 358 is a little more to handle than the 386. Cabins are the same difference is in the cockpit. Personally not a big fan of the 358.
