rub rail painting?
 

my rubrail on my 02 31 sonic is in nice shape except the back section has yellowed slightly. has any onr tried to spray paint it white using duplicolor paint for plastic? if so please instruct me on how to prep.

I think the paint would rub off quickly from the fenders, fender lines, docks etc..... getting that white rubrail clean is tuff... I found that using a wheel buffer and a cleaner wax was the best to get it clean and give a NICE shiney look. For the tuff spots, I used powder bon ami/comet and a scrub pad or brillo....

wetsand ir with 1000,,yellow b gone.

PVC pipe cleaner. Be carefull with it, its strong and removes paint.

I actually did some repairs on my rub rail this weekend and I'm going to paint it with the krylon plastic paint. The key is prep work and then to clear it with a matt clear. I'm putting in a brand new vinyl insert so I wanted it all to be bright white. I went/am going this route as I cannot get the hard plastic part of the rub rail anymore for my 00 358.

Mitcher T paints them all the time and I haven't seen any issues. I would have to say the Prep work and quality of paint is key!

Prep is pretty easy, clean, degrease, scuff with a good painters brillo pad or with 1000 grit sand paper, You can use adhesion promoter but scuffing it should give the paint a good surface to adhere to. Then paint it and I recommend a couple coats of flat clear. You can use regular rattle can paint and clear and get excellent results. It's all in the prep like mentioned above!
