New to Sonic

Well, i did it. I've been boating for years, lurking here for years and finally bought a performance boat. It is a 2002 Prowler that was optioned very nicely. Thanks to Kurt (Biggus) and Morgan for hooking me up (btw, my wife wants to talk to you guys:poopoo:). The boat looks & runs good but needs some help. It appears to have some elecrical gremlins that need to be figured out (go figure, the owner was an elecrician - :party-smiley-004:sorry pete if you are reading this). I have a ton of questions that i will need to ping you guys on. Two quick ones to start:
1. Can you find the stock dash switches anywhere (or are they rebuildable)?
2. There is a small panel (2"x5") screwed to the transom with a bunch of wires going into it. Is this a ground bank of some kind where everything would go back to?

Bring on some sun, get the water levels up and lets go spring!!
(And I'll post some pics once I figure it out)

aweome congrats:bunnydance:

Yes and yes. Post pics and I'm sure you'll get the answers on here. Congrats.

Congrats Bruce! Looking forward to checking it out and going for a rip!

Kurt

Yes the panel on the transom is likely the ground bus. The circuit breaker switches on the bigger boats are made by ETA, not sure about the standard rocker switches. Post some pics! Congratulations on the new toy!

Hey Kurt,
I'm going to try and change the engine oil and gear lube this weekend (weather permitting), and if I get it done, I might go out sat afternoon. The water is high enough in Sebago and i can bring it to the state park ramp. Your more than welcome to come.

Regarding pics. that is all I have for now. The boat is at a friends house as my lawn is a mud pit. I'll get some more this week when I go to visit it.

Gullys @ Newburg ramp. It was an awesome day. I came about 4 hours for a test drive and the temp was 37 the entire drive. Whitecaps when I arrived but after about 45 min the wind stopped and it warmed right up. The temp said 55 when I left (with the new to me Sonic attached).

Stopped by after work to clean it up some. I was poking around the engine compartment and found about a 6' braided line under the engine. Woohoo, i'm thinking it is an oil drain. I still have a ton of cleaning to do, but here are a couple more pics.

26sonic, it might be the same boat, I think it has had a couple owners near to you. Re: the engine, i think it has had a couple of different ones in it over the years.

Interior question for you guys. The foam in the bottom part of the rear seat is "flat" for lack of a better word. Because of this, the seat looks a little baggy. Have any of you guys had this problem and how did you fix it. I'm thinking of carefully taking the back off and inserting some more foam. They are not in great shape, but I think I can get a couple more years out of the interior.

The rocker switches are made by carling. I have replaced all of mine.you can pull them up online. You must purchase them from a carling dealer. I don't know what is going on at sonic right now, I called Bruce at sonic, he was to get them for me. Very easy to replace.

26sonic 04-09-2013 04:22 PM

this site has them, i bought mine from them before:http://www.waytekwire.com/products/

Thanks Guys for the switch info

Thanks, Will let you know how my testing goes this weekend. Some of them might just be the fuse, some might be wiring, the hatch lift is the one that is worrying me becuase it has power and works (one side) when it feels like it:).

One more pic, just becuase it isn't here and I can't go out and look at it.

You can take these switches apart. I've had a few of them that quit working and found that there was some corrosion inside. Cleaned them up and good as new.

Thanks Splash, that is what I was going to try this weekend. Good to know it's possible.

If by some miracle you have some tv tuner cleaner, thats the perfect stuff for the job.

welcome to maine

jmbighead 04-22-2013 03:55 AM

I'm sure you found switches by now I went through the hunt for switches awhile back and was able to order them for about 6 bucks per switch and they had some extra covers too I think there was a minimum amount to order but it wasn't bad I stocked up cause they are hard to find and Sonics current owners are worthless. Unless you want to buy a 400k boat. Wish the brand was supported by its owners, but I guess it's a tough business Good luck

2 steps forward, one step back

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the help on the switches. I was able to take apart the ones that were not working, cleaned them out and got both the bilge and the blower working. Given the dirt and corosion that was in the ones i fixed, i'm sure they all need to be cleaned. I'll probably get some spares ordered too, but right now I have more important items to spend money on.

I also put some touchup paint on the trim tabs, and put them all the way down to do this. When I went to bring them back up, one of the indicator cables broke:poopoo:.

Does anyone know what length to order on these? OSO search turned up one reference to a 15', but I need to be sure and need to get both sides.

Thanks

The cables might be marked with the length on them. Look in the engine compartment or if the prowlers are set up with an small door in the bathroom that lets you look behind the helm.

pony3xp 05-02-2013 07:33 PM

Thanks Quinny

Unfortunatly I'm in NH and the boat is in Maine, so I wanted to order them and have them for next weekend when I go back.
No big deal, summer doesn't start for another month in Maine so I still have plenty of time.

I figured I was going to have to pull the "gauge" anyway so I would just look when I pop this out.

Thanks Again.

jmbighead 05-15-2013 03:46 PM

I ordered more switches and bought plenty of extra, you can rebuild too if there not too corroded inside, I can get the info from place I ordered them, it was a minimum order so I got enough to re do all switches

Prowler26 05-18-2013 04:35 AM

jmbighead,

Can you put the info you have on where you got the switches? I too ordered a few from Sonic about 3 years ago when you could talk to Loly and Bruce through email or phone. Now with the new ownership, getting any info is few and far between. Thanks for the help.
