Looking at 02 Sonic 31ss...

going to look at 02 31 ss. Any particular things I should keep an eye out for. Boat looks very clean but just checking Thanks!

As far as I know there are not any inherent problems with these boats. I would recommend looking it over carefully however and if you want to do the deal to get a survey done. Even though they are great boats, a bad owner could have made it a not so great boat.

Looked at it today. Has two gas tanks how many gallons are each. Had a crack at bottom of cabin entrance on the inside other than that clean boat

It should be 2 90gallon tanks. As far as the stress crack by the cabin door that shouldn't be a big deal. They are great riding boats with lots of creature comforts/features that make boating more fun and easier.

I beleive the fuel capacity is (2) 70 gallon tanks. In regards to the surface cracks in the gel... Not to worry... If it was structural...walk.

My '97 has 2 70 gallon tanks. I think almost all the 31's have some small surface cracks in them.

How does this boat ride at cruise does it pull the bow up some or run level coming out of a 311 sr1

45SS 04-15-2014 06:38 PM

The ride will depend on the props. I had a set of props labbed and it did not ride as well as it did with the stock Mercury bravo's.( labbed for speed) I did own a 31, they are great riding boats. As far as size in the cabin it would be night and day compared to a 31 Formula the Sonic is big down stairs. Mine had 500EFI's It would run over 80 on any day 83 was the best.

The ride will depend on the props for sure. I have had a lot of luck with labbed props but even that will depend on who did them. I have tried Throttle Up, Mercury, and BBlades all the same pitch and different results. You can expect some bow lift out of the whole unless you use the tabs The tanks are two 70 gallon like many said. I would take the sonic all day over the 311 sr1. The cabin and finish is much better. Just look at the wiring on each and you can see a big difference. You will be very happy with the Sonic but don't expect to be the fastest unless you are in some nice chop. The 31 crushes waves and is loads of fun when everyone else turns back.

Thanks for the advice. I had a 311 in the past. Cant really compare them totally different boats. I was surprised with how big the 31 was for a 31 with an integrated platform.
