Windscreen Question

OK here,s the deal I am in the market for a new/used boat maybe a 26 prowler, the boat I have now has a windshiel and we boat in the northeast ( NOT always warm) Do you guy,s know of a windshield that can be put on a prowler?? it may be a deal breaker as far as my wife is concerned.
Any help would be great, also What is the interior width of the back seat, how tight is four across the back?

I'm not sure about the Prowler, but my boat is deep enough so that my head is barely in the wind when I'm driving. I have never had a boat with a windshield.

Sydwayz 10-23-2002 09:22 PM

Sonic makes a clear windscreen. I have seen it on other boats; but not a 26' Prowler. I am 6'2" and the wind does hit me when standing, but does not affect me. When I am at speed-driving postion, tucked a bit with my feet upon the angled foot support, I am not blown by the wind at all.

Two suggestions:
Contact Jay at the factory, and see what he can make for you. You DO NOT want a 'Formula looking' windshield and frame on this boat. It will RUIN the lines. The windscreen is a viable option, especially if a taller one can be made, in either clear plexiglass.

Check out www.windaway.com
This is a product that I have looked at. It looks very functional, and I have seen them in action, and it works. It also comes off, and does not ruin the looks of the boat. There are actually a few companies that make this type of sheild.

Also, is she worried about her hair or her eyes? If it is just the eyes, buy a pair of:

-Sidecars- model.

They are fantastic at keeping the wind out of your eyes. I wear contacts at speed, and have never had a problem.

Offshore Performance in Grasonville, MD is having an open house this weekend. Call Frank and see if they are going to have or can have a Prowler in the water.

I added 6" of clear Lexan to my wind screen works great!!its 1/8' thick and you can bend it easy with a heat gun cost me $20

Dyno,

How did you attach the extra 6" onto your windscreen? Does it come off easily to put the cover on or did you get a new cover made for it?

dyno 10-29-2002 05:22 AM

I through bolted it and had a new cover made.....small stainless screws with lock nuts....makes a huge differance seated you have no wind at all....

East Coast B 10-29-2002 05:32 AM

Do you have any photos?? Would love to see it. We have our sights set on a 31', took one out for a demo on Sunday and wind was a factor. I'm 6' 2" tall and it's not as deep as the 35' we tested, tighter driver area.... Have to sell our boat and extra trailer we have first....

dyno 10-29-2002 05:51 AM

I dont have a digital camera but Mitchstellin has one I'll see if we can get a pic, its in storage so it could be hard!!!

East Coast B 10-29-2002 05:55 AM

If we do bring a 31' home this winter, I'd like to see how that looks. Are you far from Liditz(sp?). We get down that way from time to time to visit my girlfriends brother and hit the Shady Maple.... My parents are there this morning actually....

East Coast B 10-29-2002 06:25 AM

Ahhhh.... That's Holland Michigan.... oooooops!!!!

dyno 10-30-2002 08:26 AM

you wont be able to see it in pics...I looked at one that redstripe took of my boat at Smoke on the water and you cant see it...no frame or anything its way clear.....I put a radious on the corners heated it up at the bends in the windscreen so they match clamped it where I wanted it, drilled it, and bolted it in place...piece of cake...

JROMY2 10-30-2002 08:19 PM

I've spent a lot of time on the 26 Prowler - no wind problems more than any other boat I've been on. My 259 Checkmate has full windshield like the Formula and has WAY more wind blast than the Sonic. (Plus the Sonic just looks awesome). The only thing I've done with my windshield is worry about people breaking it as they climbed over it! Buy some good goggles/sunglasses! My .02

surfacetension 10-31-2002 01:25 PM

I found a dealer East coast marine brokers they quoted me 500.00 for a higher windshield anyone ever see this option???

Hey SydWayz,

Did you get the goggle-it kit for those side cars?

Yes, I bought the Sidecars with the goggle kit included and two extra sets of lenses. They are great; as well as comfortable. They do not fog up, and they are not coming off of your head with the strap cinched up.

I also have about 8 pairs of www.bombersunglasses.com
Specifically the A-Bomb model. At $20 bucks they are almost disposable, and they FLOAT, no need for straps. They are not as good as Sidecars, but I wear them for everything. They are super comfortable. When I am out charging hard in the wind for more than a 5 minute run in the Sonic, I put on the Sidecars.
