Dyno,
Try the Mirage 3 blades you'll get better top but I think hole shot and mid range will suffer.... don't know if you would be happy.

typically for a

454/496 = 24P 4blade
496HO = 24/26P 4blade
500 = 26/28P 4blade

Seriously I'd call a couple professional wheel spinners and give them your exact rpms/speeds in various weather and water conditions and see if there is a consensus amongst a few of them as to what they think would work best. If your looking for "one" all purpose best bang for the buck prop it's probably going to be a "custom" labbed 4 blade in the 24-26P range. What I mean by custom is exactly that...made for your boat specifically. This is one area that can and will make a huge difference. Good luck!

Dano with my current set up(1993) the X is lower right? will a 4 blade work for me? I havent been able to get out to my boat to measure the X yet but I will soon!!!

Dano, Have you been in a new 31 (that is infused) how is the ride, and speed say with 496HOs?

Pure Energy 11-07-2002 07:49 PM

'90 30SS

original 365s w/23 mirage 3 blades, 67 mph on Gps @5000 rpm in 4-5' chop

new power, procharged 502s, 640 hp w/32 bravo 1s, 94.7 on GPS @5300 rpm

Dano 11-08-2002 07:12 AM

The infuson hasn't impacted ride quality at all and the twin 496HO set-up is economical from a purchasing, maintenance and operating perspective. I made a previous post on speeds with different engine configurations but with that package optioned out conservatively high 70's to low 80's out of the box. Again that has to be prefaced with speeds as seen here in the mid-west... in coastal areas you will probably see more.

Ken...nice numbers bro!

I was in the last one I think it was 1995...took a hell of a beating from Holland north 3-6' sea's I had a 25 Checkmate at the time...sure was a great time!!!

Pure Energy 01-16-2003 09:29 PM

Dyno, I thought about a shorter drive but I am not interested in spending that kind of money. It is fast enough the way it is.

Sonic30ss 01-17-2003 09:06 AM

I'm running 3 blade mirages on alpha ss drives(2'' shorter than std alpha), and yes the holeshot/getting on plane is a little weak, but once the props bite it goes.
My speed is way off (I had one lean motor that had two dead cyl and the heads on the other were mismatched)oooppppsss! Bought it that way, I didn't know there was a problem untill one pulled 5200rpm and the other would only manage 4200rpm
but still managed to run 65gps with Merc racing 5.7l 320horse efis.
Lets see what two brand new motors and efi set ups will do this year. It's gonna be hard dodging ice flos on the CT river though.

Sonic30ss 01-17-2003 09:09 AM

Sorry I forgot it's an 87 30SS, which is the same hull as the 31, LOA is 301.5
