New Owner Questions.....

Ok now, as the new owner of Too Olds 31 SS, 1988 version, I am going to ask some of the same questions that Too Old did. I need pictures of the starboard side (passenger side) of the dash and the cuddy entry wall. There are several white plastic panels installed that do not look original, so I want to know what went there, like above the refridgerator. Has anyone ever installed a larger 'fridge?

Any interior pictures would also be good, as well as wiring diagrams that may be available. I appreciate everyones help here.
Thanks ahead of time. :)

I could get you some pics of my prowler, but they probably arnt right for a 31 because there definietly is not enough room for a fridge.

GO4BROKE, would prob be the best one to help you out.

GO4BROKE 11-13-2002 07:22 PM

Congratulations! I think you got a good deal. Have you checked the web site for pics? There may be some pics that would help. www.sonicusaboats.com There should be a storage cabinet above the fridge. I will post some pics for you when I can find them.

I appreciate any help guys. Of course I plan to make some changes to the boat but I need to know what was where. I believe there was a stove in the counter in front of the sink.....does that sound correct? There is a large rectangular hole there, that has a "plastic plug" in it now. I think I will install a larger sink & counter top with a built in blender to make it a real bar! Put in an ice maker(?) ...is that possible with no generator?????? or maybe a small Honda genset...hummmmm

Gettin' the gears a movin' in the head now... the stereo guys are coming tomorrow to look at her for some serious sound stuff.
Still have to figure out the upholstery though.....

Mark in So. MD 11-13-2002 11:08 PM

Gosh, isn't it nice to have a performance boat with a lot of room?:)
I havent seen any real good 12V blenders.
A small Honda would be nice. They are pricey but the best and quiet too.
And again, you will have room to put it somewhere.
I have shorepower, but sure wish I had a generator at times.

Blown Formula, what's your email address. I have a few pics of the interior from my 31 ss..but..it's a 98.

blown formula 11-14-2002 08:28 AM

Ok, my email is [email protected] 918-581-1654 ofc.

In regard to the room (aka space) there is more cockpit room in my Formula 312 but less in the engine bay. Go figure! I suppose all the options on it eat up a lot of room & then there are the Prochargers also. The cuddy is larger on the Sonic, not that I will ever sleep in it, but I do like the vacu-flush stool & shower.

Lookin' forward to the pic's CelticPride. Thanks!:)

Sonic30ss 11-15-2002 07:02 PM

Blown Formula,
I e-mailed you before I saw your post but the plug in front of the sink on my unmolested 87 is a tempered glass cutting board (for the limes!)
Above the fridge is a storage cubby, above that is the switch and stereo panel
The panel in front of the pass seat is a neat display of the lighting and battery switch done with LEDs to tell you what is on , although some of mine are not operating right now.
As I said in my PM I'll get the pics out ASAP.

GO4BROKE 11-15-2002 08:54 PM

Ill e mail you pics this weekend.

This is a friend's '96 31..

GO4BROKE 11-16-2002 04:12 PM

Do You need more?

blown formula 11-17-2002 08:45 PM

Go4Broke.... I will check the pictures at my office in the a.m.

The position I am in here is, the main circuit breaker panel has been removed, the breakers are intact & laying in the storage cabinet but the panel is gone. What does the original panel look like & how is it labled? This is NOT the neat switch panel on the left side, this is the 6 circuit breakers on the right/top side.

On each side of the cockpit, there are large white plastic panels attached to the sides & cover large holes in the inner-liner. Are these/were these originally storage compartments?

The floor is removable, but I need to bolt some bolsters to the floor so what & how much space is between the floor & the fuel tanks to put backing/support plates in?

The back seat fiberglass assembly is bolted to the sides of the liner but has about a 4 inch space under the front edge that is totally unsupported. What goes there???

I appreciate the help guys and need MANY interior photos, covering practically every functional point-
ac/dc/fuel/electrical/gauge panel, switch panels, main battery switch, battery locations, fuel switches, etc.
I know I ask a lot, but please help this poor guy!!:D

Sonic30SS- your boat probably is an original of mine. Any chance you have a factory wiring diagram?

GO4BROKE 11-18-2002 06:35 PM

Why don't you post some pics of what you have questions about and then we can better figure out what you need.

bn 11-18-2002 06:45 PM

Come on Chris, fire up that digital camera of yours! I didn't think that you needed a good reason to go get up in your boat. :D

blown formula 11-19-2002 09:40 AM

I will fire up my camera this coming weekend and do my best to post them (I have to learn how to size them first).
I will then post a single pic with an attached question in the post???? Is that what I need to do?? I will be glad to do it. I have needed to learn how to do that and now I have a good reason!

Does anyone have a wiring diagram? Particularly of the shorepower set-up and inverter/charger system if installed???

   big project!!

GO4BROKE 11-19-2002 05:43 PM

Actually Brian, I'm waiting until roadrunner is installed monday before loading my picture software into the computer.
And no I don't need a reason, just a drink and a good magazine. And a coat!

blown formula 11-25-2002 04:39 PM

Go4broke.... I am sorry I neglected you....your pic's are great, very nice boat!! I am wanting some of that purple carpet for mine!! I need a source and Sonic is not it!!

I have sent my pic's to everyone on this thread now looking for answers. I hope it works, as it is a fair sized attachment to my email to you. Give it time & it should work. If not let me know.

PM is not working!!

George

GO4BROKE 11-25-2002 07:37 PM

I just got my roadrunner account going now. I'll send you some cabin pics tomorrow. I haven't got your pics, if you would, send them to my new e mail:

I think that covers it. Sorry I was so long, life is nuts lately.

blown formula 01-05-2003 08:59 PM

Go4Broke- those are great! I love that color of red in your carpet! All those plastic panels in the side walls & cuddy are gone in my boat. So I will have to design some "custom" stuff (similar to my Formula) and build them in my shop.

This is turning into a WHOLE lot of work!!
We pulled the engines this week... one is a Mark IV one a Gen V.
I don't know how the internals match up but we will know soon. The starters are totally eaten up with rust/corrosion & would barely turn over.
The bad news is that one engine has an ALPHA bellhousing & coupler!! One gimbal (old style Bravo) is worn out- both axis! The other is new Bravo style with internal reservoir. The drives are also different! What a mess. I indeed have a project here.

So now I am looking for a matching Gen V block & heads. The
Mark IV rotating assembly will work in the Gen V block. I need to pull & verify cams also. Whoever replaced an engine in this boat did a piss-poor job of it!! No wiring or plumbing is secured in the engine bay! Two different size & capacity bilge pumps. Next weekend I start stripping the engine bay for painting & reconditioning & removing the gimbal assembly. :( Well, it is the 1st step up the hill to completion.

GO4BROKE 01-06-2003 04:30 AM

Wow, that sucks. At least you bought it right, hopefully when you're finished it will be worth more than you paid!

blown formula 01-06-2003 08:28 AM

I think I can, but I really don't want to even think of selling it at this point. Too Much blood, sweat & tears to go thru.

I would appreciate you keeping an ear to the ground on a Gen V block & heads for me though!
I will be spending the next month just stripping & painting the engine bay..... and then the boat (Miami) show, then my ankle fusing surgery. Ugh!! 8 weeks in a cast sucks.

Good luck, keep us posted on progress!
