outboards to downsize from my 28 Profile Cat and putting my engines on it, I was wondering about the boat as I see they dont build them anymore any thoughts?

Nice project for sure. The GIL brackets are prone to rot where pipe is welded to mounting plates, so be sure to check that or plan to replace them with a bracket from Stainless Marine which will add flotation by nature of being a sealed unit. I have no knowledge of rot but just want you to be careful.

Twin O/B Sonic 10-12-2020 07:59 PM

I’ve owned two and loved them.

But, the aft cockpit seat base is glassed to transom for support.

It started as a single IO design for Donzi in the ‘60’s and this was their fix to make it twin OB.

They glass the bottom of the base (on the foam core) to the transom which if beat, pulls the foam loose allowing the transom to move.

Both mine did and every other one I’ve seen did same.
Check at transition from side deck to transom cap.
They crack at the aft cleat and is not an easy fix.

Huge cabin though and an absolute blast to drive/fly if you like a hull that rewards driver input.
