358 new motors
Does anyone have some "real" numbers with a sonic 358 and the new 525 efi motors ? Love the boat, but need to move faster - life's too short !

send Dano a PM he will have the scoop!!!!

The new infused 386 can touch 81/82 GPS with the new 525EFIs. I am not sure about the 358, but you may see 85+?
Thunder32 is ordering one this week! |
Powerboat mag. did a test on a 2001 (old hull) 358 with 500EFI's that ran 78 GPS. With the lighter hull (400 lbs. or so) I figure the 358 with 525's should run 80-81 (real numbers).
I placed an order with Frank at Offshore Performance with this setup last week. I'm not in a real hurry for delivery, say April '03, so I'll have some time this winter to go to FL and see the real scoop. But to answer your question, I would not expect mid to high 80's with this set up. |
I don't know. I think it ws Sydawaz that ran the 386 w/525s Its system and he got 81-82 salt. Gotta figure 358 same setup is going to move a little faster.

I dont know if this applies here, and it probably doesn't. But I have seen a 29 fountain go faster than a 27(same power, HP500) and also a 36 spectre goes faster than a 30(same power, HP500s), Naturally those hulls have steps and one packs air but it is kinda unusual that a bigger hull with more weight goes faster than its smaller counter part.

I think those things usually show differences in set up more than the speed of the hull (light lay up, raised X, labbed prop, etc.)

When I ran the 386 with 525s, we were right at 80mph with 100 gallons of fuel, 3 men, and only 2 foot of chop.
Jay, the mechanic at OP said he got the 81/82 with less fuel and more chop. |
