386 Sonic
What sort of speed would you expect from a 386 with 575 SCI's, XR drives and Stelling entension boxes?

I think Sydwaz tested one from Offshore Performance a while back, & I think he said low 80's GPS.

386
That boat was a 525 boat he ran

I would think that the 575's would at least match the speed of the 525's. If the 575's could push the 386 to the low 80's in fresh water, that would be very respectful. I haven't been able to find any reports on this setup.

From what I was told, the 525EFI is under-rated, and is damn close to 550 HP at the crank. I would not invest in the 575SC; and go for 525EFIs, and go for Whipples when you get bored. Also, forget the Stellings, and just go with XRs with ITS.
Do a search here in this forum for info on the 2003 386 I test drove back in October, I think. Jay from OP saw 82 with one man on board, and half tank. With my driving, three aboard, we got 80 in the flat. That boat needs 3 footers to air out. |
The problem is I'm looking at the 386 listed in the classified section that is already setup with the 575EFI's and XR drives. Are you saying that you would not purchase a boat with that motor drive combination?

Nope, I am saying I would not order one that way. If it is already setup, go for it. Expect a pre-2003 to be a bit slower, since it is not the infused hull. I would imagine the one in the classifieds would run very similar to what I described above.

I figured it would work out to be about the same speed you had with the 2003 too. From what I read there are somethings I can do to the 575's if get bored but may not give enough results to make it worth wile. I'm going to check out the boat Thuresday.

Moat 2002 358's and larger were injection molded and I believe the one you are talking about was.
