New idea for step pads beside rear seats??

New from Eddie Marine...
Does anyone have easy access to their 26' Prowler so you can measure the dimensions of those plastic pads that are in there? EMI offers two sizes, and these would look TRICK in place of what is there.

(My boat is in the Cover-it, 30 miles from home, under two covers.)

509 SC 02-22-2003 11:08 AM

Brian, I'm going to my boat this afternoon to jump the battery thru fuse panel. I'll measure the steps and post by this evening. I saw those step pads advertised also, but didn't think about swapping mine. It would be great if they fit, as I can see the white steps I have are going to be dirt magnets! Steve

GO4BROKE 02-22-2003 11:46 AM

The white steps are easy to clean. I have been thinking of hinging them to open and reveal cup holders like Formula does.

509 SC 02-22-2003 08:03 PM

Brian, I measured my step pads, they are 5 7/16 X 11 7/8. I took them off to see if you could use a narrower width, and you would need a minimum width of 4" to cover the holes from the 6 mounting screws. As far as the lenght, you would need something almost exact due to the fact that the mounting screws were at the ends of the pad ( at least mine were). Let us know what sizes are offered. Steve

Sydwayz 02-22-2003 08:12 PM

DAMN!! No go. The largest one offered is 3 3/8" Wide X 8 7/8" Long.

Thank you 509!

If you want to spend the money, you always could take your exisiting ones to a metal guy, and have some fabricated out of aluminum, then have them powder coated any color you wanted.
Then turn around and sell them to the rest of the Prowler guys ! I know Jesse James could come up with something. May want to talk to a custom bike shop, as they make up alot of stuff for the bikes.

509, how did the Fuse Panel jump work out ? You can get jump post terminals from www.summitracing.com. They mostly sell automotive stuff, but have recently started to carry marine carbs from Holley. The jump post terminals would be a nice factory standard offering. I guess they figure no one will ever have this problem or not have access to shore power. Im sure you could find several places to put the terminals on the Prowler. If I remember correctly the terminals have covers so shorting them with objects moving around should not be a concern. Cost under $20.00 a set.

509 SC 02-23-2003 11:22 AM

Team Sonic 42, I was grateful for the idea. I made up some wire leads with alligator clips attached, used a portable battery booster pack and clipped on the backside terminals of the hatch switch and "abra kadabra" ! Thanks for the lead on the jump post terminals! Steve

does anyone know if the other model sonics use the same size step as the 26 prowler? if they are the same then maybe we can get a group order fron eddie marine or get sonic to have them made.

TeamSonic42 02-25-2003 08:49 PM

I think the only Sonics that have these are the 26's. Maybe 28's. All else have the non skid walkway everwhere.

509 SC 02-25-2003 09:23 PM

Team Sonic 42, Brian is referring to the step mounted directly in front of the rear bench armrest, it's not on the top of the gunnel in the non-skid. I know I've seen them on 31's and I think 35's also. Steve

Sydwayz 02-25-2003 11:04 PM

Yup the plastic step pads are inside the boat; as you step down into the cockpit; right beside the rear seat, next to the cupholders.

TeamSonic42 02-26-2003 04:12 PM

Sorry, my mistake. I have the same steps, but mine are aluminum slots with some kinda hard material slid into the slots, and the end of the slots are crimped in some, so the material wont slide out. The material is white though and very hard. The wife actually cut the bottom of her foot on the corner of one of the sharp crimps. What a mess !

I cant comment if this is the same as on anything under 42'. Would be nice if you could get something in billet/powder coated.

26sonic 02-26-2003 08:47 PM

guys i will call eddie marine thur. and see if they will make us the steps in the size we need . i may need some one to fax me a template of the measurements and where the screws go . my boat is away for the winter and can't get to it till spring . i will post info thur.

26sonic 02-28-2003 01:40 PM

guys still have to talk to sonic yet but eddie marine said they could make us the right size steps for our boats if we put in a order for 20 total steps ( 10 pairs ) . the only thing is the original screw holes will not be in the same spot as the new ones due to the molded rubber being in that spot so you will have to drill new holes , no biggy. the old holes will be covered . i'm looking to have them done in purple but we can see if they'll do other colors in the same order. anyone interested ? i know of 3-4 friends that i boat with that are. i'll try to get in touch with sonic to see if they are interested.

TeamSonic42 02-28-2003 01:56 PM

If these are the same as are in my 42, Iwould be interested in getting some in Red...... Will measure & repost.

509 SC 02-28-2003 04:59 PM

26 Sonic, I'd be interested in a pair in purple also. Would they be the same style as the picture that Sydwaz posted? Thanks, Steve

vagrant 02-28-2003 05:19 PM

I am interested also .I was just looking at this the other day.Let me know who I need to pay .
Thanks
David

26sonic 02-28-2003 05:55 PM

509sc they are the same style as sydwayz posted but our dimensions.

Sydwayz 02-28-2003 08:31 PM

I am in. If I run into any other 26 owners; I will ping them.

Sonic Steve 03-01-2003 07:12 PM

You can count me in for a pair in purple. If they are the same size for the 42. I will have to see what TeamSonic42 comes up with.

I will try this again. Here is what the step pads look like in the 42. They measure 5 1/2 by 12. In case nobody caught that the first time around.

Quiet Storm 03-11-2003 05:44 AM

I would be interested too but I won't see my boat untill mid April to measure. Are they all the same size? I have a 386.

Roger

Sydwayz 03-12-2003 11:59 AM

I am going to attempt a trip to OP this weekend, and measure all the boats and their pads. Hugh even expressed interest that they might be game for a couple pads. I did not have a chance to measure the pads at the show.

GO4BROKE 03-12-2003 06:17 PM

I would be interested.

Sydwayz 03-17-2003 02:24 PM

Ok, here is the real deal:
I measured every 26-42 footer I could find at OP yesterday, all of newer vintage, and every one has the same pad. They are all the 5 7/16 X 11 7/8 same dimensions. I have taken my pad off, and brought it home to make a template, and go forward with Eddie Marine. So far, I think we have about 5 or 6 buyers. I am going to get a price ASAP. We will still need the guarantee of 10 orders. I will call EMI either tonight or tomorrow.
