Milky drive trim oil

Anyone know what I might be able to do if the drive trim oil is milky in one of my trim motors? The drive stops sometimes when going in or out. What kind of oil goes in there?

If your trim oil is milky, your getting water in the line. If your trim stops working, you've got air in the lines and/or are low on fluid. Our JD loader, when the fluid goes low, air gets in the line and compresses under the pressure thus losing the cylinders ability to lift the load. Since the fluid is milky, the leak is external and is sucking in water.... new rams are in order or rebuild. As for fluid type.... merc sells fluid for the power trim pump or you can us 10-30 or 40 motor oil....

Mine did it once when it was brand new and I could not find anything wrong. I changed the oil (10w-30) and made sure the cap was tight. Two years now and still fine. I think my cap was letting water in.

Still under warranty?
Look for a loose line on the starboard drive, I have a hunch.

Maybe it is a loose line. Maybe Lapse of Reason had the same problem, did you have to take the lines off to change the fluid and then retighten them?

no warranty.

When mine did it I was in the Bahamas where the water is clear, I put a mask on and had my wife work the tab while I looked at the lines to see where the leak was. Because that is what I thought it was, no leak found. I suck the oil out with a turkey baster put new oil in ran to the next Island and changed it again. It's never happened since, when I got back to Sonic I told them and they were the ones that told me the cap probably wasn't tight.
