Insurance Companies

I'm sure this has been addressed before, but here goes.
My new Sonic is just about finished (actually being painted this week). My current insurance company is "dragging their feet" in getting me a quote on my new '04 Prowler w/ 500 EFI. My agent (broker) tells me that the brand Sonic sends a red flag up with most companies (almost like Cigarette - which he says is the hardest to insure). So who are most of you using? My previous boat (a 620 hp 272 Procharged Baja) cost me around $900. Should I anticipate that the Prowler will be substaintially more?

I use Blackadar, they are listed in the "links" section.

I use Reese Scott at IMIS. 18005414647
$530 year. 1999 Sonic 260 with 500 EFI.

I also have a PLUB with State Farm for $2 million.

Had a 2002 26' Prowler with National Marine Underwriters in Annapolis Md. Not sure of telephone #, however can post later if needed. $673.00 year.

They are very reasonable with watercraft at or under 26', my 30' Cigarette is with Dollar. @ $2700 +-

I pay $600 something for a 26 Prowler with a 502 MPI through Met Life, they are my carrier for all my personal lines so I don't think they'ld do a boat only but at least it gives you an idea what others are paying. Congrats on the new boat, I'm sure you're getting excited! I went thru the same thing last year waiting for winter to end to splash the new boat. Give me a call sometime, I live about 90 miles from you and boat on Michigan quite a bit. I'ld like to talk to you about your previous boats ProCharger and your thoughts on the system. I just traded a 1998 260 for my 2004 31ss with 496 ho's and I had the same problem. I was told Sonic is on a do not insure list with a lot of the standard carriers. I was with progressive at 2800.00 then went to ski safe at 3200.00 but i carry high limits good luck!!

Thanks to everyone for responding. I've already received calls back from several of the companies listed.
blackadar marine mentioned they do not insure any boat under 30'. Reese Scott also responded immediately (thanks Sydwayz). Should have several quotes soon.
Steve. I'll definitely be giving you a call. I spend 95% of my time on the Chain of Lakes. With the new Sonic, however, I do plan on bringing that bad boy out on the big pond. I hear Sonics handle great. With the 500, ITS (7" setback)and k-planes ride should be nice.
I am going crazy for the new boat. Spoke to Fred this week. boat is being painted (Meteor) as we speak! This guy Fred is pretty cool. He has been extremely accomodating to my requests!

I have my 386 insured with State Farm for around $950. This is the first time that I have heard that Sonics are hard to insure. Do they give any special reason?

Anybody know a company that insures triple engine boats reasonably?

My 1990 50' Scarab Meteor is $4200/yr through a company in Michigan. It's not super valuable or fast but due to the triples and the fact that it is stored in the water all year at my condo in Hallandale FL, they have a licence to steal.

26sonic 12-22-2003 06:00 PM

my 1998 26 sonic 502efi insured with nationwide for $650 yr . they also informed me if i go bigger and over 70mph i'm out. checked with state farm and they gave me same quote but you have to be claim free for 3yrs. i put a claim in 2yrs ago so i'm waiting next year to change over. they said it would'nt be a problem to insure something bigger and faster. i guess it all depends on your agent !
