Interior pictures needed- 30SS

I need some interior pictures of the 30SS or 31SS as the case may be. I bought the "Too Old" Sonic & am now ready to put in a new interior. The boat came with no cockpit side panels or gunwale storage doors. I need to see what Sonic put in originally for these boats. Can someone post pictures for me?? It would really be nice if I got a good set of pictures of the cabin door also & how it is supposed to be attached. All help is appreciated.

One more question- How far from the dash are the bolsters usually mounted?? Seats were also not installed in the boat . Thanks again!! Boat is in paint shop now for a new paint job, Fred's is GONE!!.

I have a couple of pics but they are to large to post. PM your e-mail address and I will send them to you.

Pure Energy 03-17-2004 08:12 AM

I had a bunch of pics but did not transfer them to the new computer. I will check the old one to see if I can find them.

The original bolsters only fit 1 way. The armrest on the driver and passenger side meet up to the dash. I personally did not like them, they were uncomfortable. I replaced them with bolsters from Twin Marine, but they too were not comfortable and I had to modify them. Wasn't a big deal but I can't see how they could have been considered comfortable!

CP performance has some nice looking bolsters. $1400 each though. The new Sonic seats look nice but they will run closer to $1800+.

I'll post later if I find the pics.

blown formula 03-17-2004 10:09 AM

My bolsters came out of a Profile and do not mount that way. I also have another set coming that I am thinking about using... if I just had a measurement from a point on the dash/bulkhead to the seat edge it would help.

Thanks,
George

Fromula,
I'll get some pics and measurments for you.
I'll be leaving in a few hrs. though so it'll be next week

Pure Energy 03-17-2004 10:33 AM

I mounted my bolsters so they were comfortable for me. Custom install you can put them wherever you want, just make sure there is room for passengers in the back seat.

blown formula 03-17-2004 03:16 PM

I had mounted one where I thought it would be comfortable, but also considering hi-speed security (tight fit), but I removed it for the painting and interior work. I was asking to see how far off from the factory settings I was for the bolsters.... This is an old boat so I was looking for "old boat" info!! Sonic keeps no records like Formula does.... everthing is an experiment!!

I still need to see the side storage door assembly....
What you posted was helpful to me. Thanks.

It appears I am going to do something different from Sonic. I intend to put in upholstered full side panels. It gets rid of the hard & unfinished look of the cockpit. Also, I won't have to repaint the cockpit either.

More pictures would be helpful though if anyone has some.

Thanks!!

Pure Energy 03-17-2004 08:00 PM

I too have been wanting to do the upholstered side panels. I was thinking of using the foam backed vinyl. I just don't know what to attach it to, plywood, masonite, plastic sheet? I am in the process of tearing the cockpit apart to paint it. I have removed the storage compartment door assembly and will take some detailed photos for you tomorrow.

blown formula 03-17-2004 08:35 PM

Use 3/8" marine plywood for the panels. use spray glue to attach the foam to the plywood, then wrap the wood & foam in plastic. Now apply the upholstery material.
To attach the panels you can put in bolts after placing the bare panel in place & drilling mounting holes in the boat & panel at the same time. Now put "T-nuts" in place from the back side & thread bolts thru panel. It will now bolt up with no fastners showing. You must do this step before the foam & plastic tho'.

I can't wait for the pictures from you. Thanks!

I found this Automotive door panel. http://www.garysupholstery.com/trunk...tml#panelboard

The upholstry I'm thinking of is vinyl with 1/4" foam already attached. http://www.garysupholstery.com/foamback.html

Nice lookin' rigs!! Mine might look that good someday, I hope..... I'll never get the cabin finished this year, but will do the cockpit now.
Damn painters have had my boat for 4 weeks and just now got the primer on it to block sand it. This is taking up a lot of space in their shop, so they should want to get it out of there. Now that spring is here maybe they will move along.

I still need that picture of the gunwale storage ( under the bolsters).
Thanks guys... keep em' coming!!

Why do you need to repaint? I thought Fred had just done all of that. Here's the best storage compartment pic I have:

Here you can see distance from bolster to throttles. My bolsters are the new style, by the way.

Very Good!!
I am repainting due to some of Fred's painters screwups. (Runs, sags, un-color sanded ridges, and some damage to a couple of areas) Also, I had to fix the bottom gel coat- scraps, gouges, etc and blue print it. When approached about color sanding, paint repair & clear coating... the painters gave me a price of $2500.00 Two weeks later I talked about updating the graphics and the price was the same (est) to sand the entire boat & start from scratch... so that's what I am doing. This is a far larger project than I bargained for. Everything has been replaced... EVERYTHING- that is except the gauges and that is in the works also.!!
shifters, throttles, cables, wiring (even new harnesses), all K-plane & trim pumps cleaned and rebuilt, drives, transom assemblies, new fuel pumps, filters, hoses, water pickups, ventilation blowers & hoses, engines (custom), Lightning headers & tailpipes with internal mufflers (a new lightning product- I'm the first!!)....
now I have to remake the interior to MY standards!!:D

29" x 15" is that correct? Are both sides the same?

Could you measure the frame width & opening size for me? That should finish the gunwale issue and thanks again.:)

29x15 is correct, and both are the same. Here are the other dimensions

Pure Energy 03-18-2004 09:37 PM

Inside Length is 26 3/4", it is hard to see in the pic.

blown formula 03-18-2004 10:03 PM

EXCELLENT!! Just exactly what I needed. Now I can buy some materials.
Thanks again
George

By the way congats on your new Sonic. I look forward to seeing it this summer on Texoma when you get it ready.

CBR 03-27-2004 09:24 PM

Hey Pure Energy, your boat looked great the way it was. I look forward to seeing your new upgrades.

I followed your lead and had Twin Marine put in new front blosters, complete with extended "arms" to the dash. They did a great job, BUT the seats are little far back for my taste, not much room in the backseat now.
Huge improvement over the aging stock blosters though.

Also removed the fridge and transformed that space into a locker, plus replaced the arch over the entrance to the V berth with a padded creation with inset flip tie rings.

I split one of my custom made gas tanks open in the Key West Poker Run, made it back to Miami before I figured out gas was in the bilge. Duh! Good thing you used a diferent tank maker from mine, and I put stock Sonic tanks back in.

Pure Energy 03-28-2004 07:42 AM

CBR, I think the boat looks aged, it has a yelow tinge to it. I just can't leave it alone!!

Does anyone know how thick these sliding doors are ?

One of mine cracked and i was gonna buy some lexan and replace it. I forgot to bring the broken one home to measure and want to get material today.

thanks
